1. Introduction
This advanced battery charger is designed to charge the Sony PCGA-BP7, PCGA-BP71,
PCGA-BP71A and equivalent notebook battery packs. It provides an excellent way of
charging these battery packs safely and conveniently outside of the notebook. The
charger has two bays and is capable of charging two battery packs simultaneously. An
LED display in each bay provides information on the charging status.

2. Safety Instructions

This battery charger is designed and built to the highest safety standards and will protect
the user from shock and other hazards when used as directed. The charger contains
high voltage circuits; it is therefore important for users to read the following instructions
carefully.
• Do not attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries including alkaline, carbon-
zinc, or non-rechargeable lithium.
• Remove all batteries from the charger before plugging the AC adapter into the wall
socket.
• Make sure battery contacts are clean and there is no debris in the charger.
• Do not short-circuit the charger's contacts with metal objects.
• Use only with the AC adapter provided.
• Make sure the battery is placed tightly in the bay to ensure a good connection.
• Pay attention to the charging status LED and discontinue charging if it shows an
error signal (refer to section 3.3).
• Always store the charger in a cool and dry place.
3. Operation
3.1. To power the battery charger, connect the barrel shaped plug into the back of
the charger and plug the AC connector of the adapter into a properly grounded
outlet.
3.2. Insert a battery pack into either bay. The battery's charging time will vary
according to its charge status and capacity.

3.3. LED Status

Note: The blinking red LED indicates that one of the above fault conditions may exist.
First remove the battery from the charger bay and re-insert it to confirm that a fault con-
dition exists. While the LED is blinking red the charger is not charging the battery. If the
LED continues to blink red, remove the battery from the charger bay and disconnect the
AC power from the charger.
