WiFi remote access how does it work?
The App settings refer to WiFi setup and HCS will supply our customers only with a detailed
instruction manual including screen shots demonstrating how most camera functions work.
Each camera is supplied with standard instructions, but Hidden Camera Surveillance offers its
customers a personally drafted user manual including actual screen shots for a much easier
setup experience.
To use the WiFi access function, the camera must be within range of a WiFi network and the
authorised user must know the WiFi router password. The router is to be set to 2.4Ghz
frequency as cameras of this nature do NOT support the 5Ghz range. Often when looking at
phone WiFi settings, the router may provide for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz so select 2.4Ghz. If
not, then do ensure the wireless router is set to 2.4Ghz frequency.
The Free mobile phone App will prompt you to select your router and then ask you to enter
your WiFi network password. Input that password and save. The WiFi Smoke Detector Hidden
Camera will reboot which takes a minute or two so the next time the authorised user logs in
with the App, it will be a live view access in WiFi mode. Once set the authorised user could
potentially be anywhere in the world perhaps in another WiFi zone or simply logging in via the
3/4G mobile network.
The smoke alarm spy camera must stay in wireless WiFi range of the router and with a decent
signal strength. If the camera is moved away from router range, the network will drop out.
It's important to understand that remote network login can be slow resulting in staggered
viewing access or slow playback due to network speed. In remote recording playback mode,
again if the network is slow, this can take time and on occasions may drop out altogether
meaning logging in again.
Please note this is NOT a camera fault. It's common using remote network access but rest
assured, if using a camera SD card, the device itself has recorded in real time so nothing is
lost. One can always come back to the memory card and replay on PC or MAC. The other
option is to download any desired recording to your phone or PC and once downloaded, the
playback will be in real time and saved.
Can I place the Spy Smoke Detector camera in a non WiFi location?
If you prefer to relocate the camera to another area which has NO WiFi signal, yes that's not
a problem. It's important to initially setup the camera in a WiFi zome because all smoke
detector spy camera settings, including motion detection etc, are all App controlled.
Once the camera settings are saved and you're sure it's recording upon motion well (test it
first) DO NOT switch the Smoke Detector Spy Camera off. Leave the camera on and relocate
to another non-WiFi location. Should you switch the camera off, it will lose those memory
settings. Of course, from that point forward if the camera is moved away from WiFi, the App
will be of no further use and you won't have any further remote camera access. The camera
will on the other hand record to the internal memory card upon detecting motion, so recordings
can be replayed on PC after the SD card is removed.
If the camera is returned to its original password WiFi zone, remote camera access ought to
be available.
Can other people see the Smoke Detector Hidden Camera?
It's a question often asked and rightly so. In short, the answer is no. When entering a shop,
home or office, often your phone will depict a range of wireless routers. Other than your
personal router, all others are private and can't be accessed for security reasons obviously,
hence the password access.
In this regard, when the camera is switched on, after a minute or so, you will see a UID number
appear in the mobile phone WiFi settings. The UID does NOT refer to a camera or anything
