voltmeter. Disconnect both leads from the coil, (measuring with them fitted will give a false result due to
conduction through the coil of the points are open!) and with the ignition switched on, look for a power supply feed
with the meter on each of the wires with respect to vehicle ground. One should show battery voltage, the other
should have no voltage present. The one with no voltage is the points, the one with power is the ignition coil power
supply. Note which cable is which, and mark them up to avoid confusion later.
Brown – ignition power connection.
Grey – system ground / earth (vehicle chassis).
Thick Yellow – Channel 1 Coil points terminal. (originally connected to points)
Thin Yellow – Channel 1 Points.
Thick Blue – Channel 2 Coil points terminal. (originally connected to points)
Thin Blue – Channel 2 Points.
The power for the Electronic Ignition unit is supplied directly from the original coil power leads or the switched
ignition feed. These circuits should normally be fused and protected by a fuse already fitted to the vehicle itself.
Make sure you connect to a switched source of power or the unit will be on all the time and drain your battery.
Brown - Fit the Brown wire to the coil supply, either at one of the coils or from a switched ignition feed.
Grey - Connect this ground wire to a good clean earth position on the vehicle frame or body.
Thick Yellow – Cylinder 1 - Connect using a suitable connector onto the coil points tab / post / wire.
Thin Yellow – Cylinder 1 - Connect to the wire that goes to the points.
Thick Blue – Cylinder 2 - Connect using a suitable connector onto the coil points tab / post / wire.
Thin Blue – Cylinder 2 - Connect to the wire that goes to the points.
