Although magnetic tape cartridges do not require any special maintenance, some basic rules should
be followed:
General
!
•
The cartridges are not to be placed near magnetic fields.
•
Avoid subjecting the magnetic tape cartridges to high temperatures or direct sunlight.
•
Never touch the magnetic tape.
•
Never drop the magnetic tape cartridges.
Check the magnetic tape according to the "SDLT Product Manual".
Also observe the notes in the "SDLT Product Manual".
When operating
•
The cartridges are not to be operated in high-humidity and in dusty environments.
•
Do not remove the magnetic tape cartridge from the drive while it is being read or
written.
•
Do not switch off the system while a magnetic tape cartridge is being read or written.
Storage
•
The cartridges are not to be stored in high-humidity and in dusty environments.
•
Store the magnetic tape cartridges in an upright position, if possible.
Write protection
The magnetic tape cartridges have a slide switch which can be used to activate and deactivate write
protection.
Write protection is activated when the switch is moved to the left (arrow pointing down) and the
orange surface is visible.
Detailed information on the slide switch can be found in any cartridge box.
Cleaning notes
•
If the yellow "Cleaning Required" indicator is illuminated, the read/write head on the drive must
be cleaned. Use the cleaning tape provided for this purpose.
•
Remove the cleaning tape from the drive once cleaning has been completed.
•
Do not use DLT cleaning cartridge for an SDLT drive.
•
The cleaning cartridge can be used up to 20 times.
•
Observe the notes in the "SDLT Product Manual".
