Installing AMWorks
Follow the instructions provided in this section to install AMWorks. If you
already have AMWorks installed, we strongly recommend that you update to
the most recent revision on your installation CD.
If you are updating to AMWorks 5.0.x.x (or later) from 4.x.x.x (or earlier), we
also recommend that you update the firmware on your AMX50xx devices to
revision 3.x.x.x (or later). The AMX50xx devices must be at revision 3.x.x.x or
later to be fully compatible with all revisions of AMWorks from 5.0.x.x and
later. At this time, you also should update user station and server (AMIQ)
firmware. You may update your firmware either before or after you
update AMWorks.
Download the AMX system firmware update files from the following location:
ftp://ftp.avocent.com/public/product-upgrades/AMX/AMX50xx/. See the
Updating Firmware topic in the AMWorks Help for instructions on updating
the firmware on your AMX50xx devices.
To install AMWorks for the first time:
1.
Place the AMWorks install CD into an appropriate drive and select Setup.
2.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
3.
Run AMWorks. You will be prompted for a password. The default
password is password. We recommend that you change the password
from its default setting. See Changing Your Password in the
AMWorks Help.
4.
After initial installation, configure the network settings.
NOTE: The first time AMWorks is installed, the network settings must be configured.
To update from AMWorks 3.0.x.x (or earlier):
1.
Ensure that the correct database information is distributed across the
AMX system by performing a Synchronize System Database command
from your existing AMWorks installation. Use the AMWorks database as
the database reference source.
2.
Note all user group and server group information. This upgrade will not
restore current user and server group information.
3.
Stop the mySql service. You must have administrator privileges to do this.
If you are unsure about this process, contact your system administrator.
