Upgrade Dell EMC Networking N2128PX-ON Switches
Upgrade mixed stack of N2128PX-ON switches with N2000 Series
To upgrade a mixed stack of N2128PX-ON and N2000 switches from 6.x.x.x to 6.5.2.15 version or later uses the
procedure below. An annotated upgrade example is shown following this section.
1. Back up your configuration from mixed stack.
2. Upgrade using telnet or SSH require default enable authentication method or enable password in current
configuration. If not configured, follow steps below to configure an enable password:
console#configure
console(config)#enable password <password>
console(config)#exit
console#copy running-config startup-config
3. Download the 6.5.2.15 firmware image (N2000N2100Stdv6.5.2.15.itb) to the mixed stack
4. Activate 6.5.2.15 firmware.
5. Reload the mixed stack.
6. Verify the firmware version on stack of N2128PX-ON and N2000 Series switches via show switch and
show version command output like below:
Manual Install of OS6 image via ONIE
To perform a manual installation of OS6 image via ONIE, boot into the ONIE: Install OS menu.
First enter the "onie-discovery-stop" command to stop the auto-discovery process if it's running.
From the ONIE prompt, use the following command to download and update the image over the network.
The following example shows the use of TFTP; however, HTTP or FTP can also be used.
onie-nos-install tftp://<ip address>/onie-installer-arm-dell_n2128px_armv7a-r0
Note: OS6 Image is available as part of "N2100v6.5.2.15.A09.zip" file under "OtherFiles" folder.
You can manually install the OS image using a USB drive as well.
Note: Verify that the USB drive supports a FAT 32 or EXT2 file system.
1. Plug the USB drive with the desired operating system into the USB port on the device.
2. Enter the following command to create a USB mount location on the system:
ONIE:/ # mkdir /mnt/media
3. Validate the specific file path for the USB drive on the switch with the blkid command. The USB
drive is highlighted in the command output below.
