DESCRIPTION

The pressurized flux delivery system is designed for use
with the semiautomatic and automatic Submerged Arc
Welding (SAW) process and includes two pieces of
equipment: a GA-60CF gun and an AFT-100 flux tank.
An optional FT-1 cart is available to make the system
portable. A wire feeder and constant voltage welding
power source are required to complete the package.
The alpha-numeric designations of the components are
explained as follows:

CART ASSEMBLY AND COMPONENT IN-
STALLATION (Figure 3-1)
To assemble cart and components, proceed as follows:
WARNING: FALLING
cause serious personal injury and equip-
ment damage.
Use lifting bracket to lift unit only, NOT any
other heavy options, accessories, or devices.
Use equipment of adequate capacity to lift
the unit.
1.
Assemble cart, if applicable, as shown in
Figure 3-1. Be sure all screws, nuts, etc., are
tightened securely.
2.
Lifting eyes are provided on the sides of the tank
for handling purposes when the tank is not in-
stalled on a cart (see Figure 3-2).
3.
Once the cart is assembled and components in-
stalled, the unit can be lifted with a hoist or over-
head crane using the lifting bracket on cart (see
Figure 3-1).
4.
Install flux tank on cart, if applicable, as shown in
Figure 3-1. Tighten all mounting hardware
securely.
5.
If applicable, install wire feeder on cart as shown
in Figure 3-1. Tighten screws securely.

FLUX TANK CONNECTIONS (Figure 3-2 And
Figure 5-1)
To make flux tank connections, proceed as follows:
1.
Connect gun flux hose to flux tank fitting, and se-
cure with supplied hose clamp (see Figure 3-2
and Figure 5-1).
2.
Obtain appropriate air hose and air hose fitting,
and connect air supply to air hose fitting on flux
tank. This fitting will accept standard air hose
connections. After checking for proper connec-
tion, disconnect air supply.

The gun is equipped with a trigger lock for operator com-
fort during long welds. The gun trigger is dual purpose –
it controls flux flow and energizes the wire feeder.

FT-1 = Flux Tank Model 1 Cart

FEEDER
(Figure 3-1)
IMPORTANT: If an optional gun/feeder adapter kit is to
be used, make gun/feeder connections according to the
instructions furnished with the kit.
A. Gun/Feeder Connector Installation
1.
Loosen the gun/feeder connector securing knob
on wire feeder drive housing (see wire feeder
Owner's Manual for location).
IMPORTANT: Install connector so that outlet wire guide
is as close to drive rolls as possible without touching.
2.
Insert the gun/feeder connector into opening in
housing (see Figure 3-1).
3.
Tighten the gun/feeder connector securing knob.
B. Gun Trigger Connections
1.
Locate TRIGGER receptacle on wire feeder
control.
2.
Connect gun trigger plug to this receptacle and
secure.

GUN TRIGGER OPERATION (Figure 3-1)
FLYING FLUX PARTICLES can puncture
eyes and skin: WELDING WIRE can cause
puncture wounds.
Do not point gun toward any part of the body,
any conductive surface, or other personnel.
Do not depress gun trigger until ready to be-
gin welding.
The gun trigger has two standard features: a locking de-
vice, and control of both flux flow and wire feeder.
The locking device allows the trigger to be held fully de-
pressed providing operator comfort on long or sustained
welds.
The control of flux flow and wire feeder is obtained by
depressing the trigger. Up to approximately 2/3 depres-
sion will allow partial flux flow only without energizing the
wire feeder. Full depression gives full flux flow and ener-
gizes wire feeder.
CONNECTIONS
