the control dial or the menu buttons). Depress the shutter button halfway to prepare the flash for firing.
When the flash icon appears on monitor the flash is ready to fire.
Taking a picture
To take a picture, compose the shot press the shutter button gently (halfway) to have the camera
adjust the focus. The AF target mark moves to the focus position. The shutter speed and aperture
value automatically selected by the camera are displayed on the monitor (except in M mode). Press
the shutter button all the way to take the picture. The card access lamp blinks while the picture is
stored on the card. You can check the picture you have taken by pressing the QUICK VIEW button.
Shooting Modes
The different shooting modes found on the mode dial will allow you to accomplish different things.
P - Camera automatically selects an aperture value
and shutter speed. Other functions, such as
flash mode and record mode can be adjusted
manually.
A - Aperture priority shooting allows you to set the
aperture manually. The camera sets the shut-
ter speed automatically for a correct exposure.
If the aperture value is displayed in red, the setting is unsuitable for the conditions. The setting is
suitable if the shutter speed is displayed in green.
S - Shutter priority shooting allows you to set the shutter speed manually. The camera sets the aper-
ture automatically. Turn control dial to set the shutter speed. If the shutter speed is displayed in
red, the setting is unsuitable for the conditions, and green if appropriate.
M -Manual shooting allows you to set the aperture and shutter speed manually. Set the shutter speed
by turning the control dial. Set the aperture by turning the control dial while holding down the +/-
button.
Tip: Using the bulb setting for the shutter speed allows you to take exposures of up to 8 minutes. The
shutter remains open as long as the shutter button is held down.
Exposure in Manual
To check the exposure, refer to the exposure differential displayed on the monitor. The value given is
the difference between two exposures, one being the camera's automatic settings, and the currently
selected exposure settings. When the shutter button is halfway pressed, the difference (ranging from
–3.0 to +3.0 EV) is displayed. If the exposure differential appears in red in the viewfinder or on the
monitor, it indicates that the exposure differential is less than –3.0 EV or more than +3.0 EV.
AE Lock
In high contrast situations the AEL (AE Lock) can be used to lock the exposure. When pressed a
screen appears with a bar indicating the current exposure differential.
Other Shooting Modes
Use the mode dial for night scene, landscape, sports, and portrait mode. These activate optimal
settings for the type of shot that corresponds to each mode.
