Using Flash Memory Cards

The Flash memory (PCMCIA) card slots on the front panel of the RSP7000 are for additional

PCMCIA-based Flash memory for your system. You can use this Flash memory to store and run

Cisco IOS images, or as a ﬁle server for other routers to access as clients. Occasionally, it might be

necessary to remove and replace Flash memory cards; however, removing Flash memory cards is not

required and is not recommended after the cards are installed in the slots.

Configuration Summary

You must reset or power cycle for the new config to take effect

Initialize the router by entering the i command as follows:

rommon 1 > i

The router will power cycle, the conﬁguration register will be set to ignore the

conﬁguration ﬁle, and the router will boot the boot system image and prompt you with the

system conﬁguration dialog as follows:

Enter no in response to the system conﬁguration dialog prompts until the following system

message is displayed:

Press RETURN to get started!

Press Return. After some interface information, the prompt appears as follows:

Router >

Enter the enable command to enter the enabled mode. The prompt changes to the

following:

Router #

Enter the show conﬁguration EXEC command to display the enable password in the

conﬁguration ﬁle.

Enter the conﬁgure terminal command at the EXEC prompt. You are prompted as follows:

Router# configure terminal

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Router(config)#

Using the conﬁg-register 0x<value> command, change the conﬁguration register value

back to its original value (noted from Step 3) or change it to a value of 0x0101 (factory

default).

Exit the conﬁguration mode by entering Ctrl-Z.

Reboot the router and enable it using the recovered password.

The RSP7000 is oriented horizontally in the Cisco 7010.
