Transferring the Resident
WARNING: DO NOT attempt any transfer of a resident without the approval of the resident's
physician, attending clinician, medical assistant or other medical professional.
Transferring to a Commode Chair
WARNING: Direct Supply recommends locking the rear swivel casters of the lift only when
positioning or removing the sling from around the resident.
a) Lift the resident from the side of the bed.
b) Press the UP arrow on the hand control to elevate the resident high enough to clear the arms
of the commode chair. His or her weight will be supported by the sit-to-stand lift.
c) Guide the resident onto the commode chair. This may require two assistants.
d) To lower the resident onto the commode chair, press the DOWN arrow.
e) Lock the rear swivel casters on the sit-to-stand lift.
f)
Perform one of the following:
• Standing sling – unhook the standing sling from the attachment points on the lift.
• Transport sling – unhook the transport sling from the bottom attachment points on the lift.
g) Lift up on the resident's legs, and remove the thigh supports from underneath the resident.
h) If desired, unhook the transport sling from the top attachment points on the lift.
NOTE: The resident can remain in the upper portion of the transfer sling while using the commode.
i)
Instruct or assist the resident in lifting his or her feet off the footplate.
j)
Remove the sling from around the resident.
k) Unlock the casters, and pull the lift away from the commode.
Transferring to a Wheelchair
WARNING: DO NOT place the resident in the wheelchair if the locks are not engaged. The
wheelchair wheel locks MUST be in a locked position before lowering the resident into the wheelchair
for transport. Otherwise, injury may result.
a) Ensure the legs of the lift with the resident in the sling are in the maximum open position.
b) Move the wheelchair into position.
c) Engage the rear wheel locks of the wheelchair to prevent movement of the wheelchair. Refer to
Detail B.
d) Position the resident over the wheelchair.
e) Lower the resident into the wheelchair.
f)
Unhook the sling from all attachment points on the lift.
g) Instruct resident to lift their feet off the footplate. Assist the resident if necessary.
h) Remove the sling from around the resident.
i)
Pull the lift away from the wheelchair.

Transferring to a Bed
WARNING: Direct Supply recommends locking the rear swivel casters ONLY when positioning or
removing the sling from around the resident.
NOTE: If the resident is being transferred from a surface lower than the bed, raise the resident above
the surface of the bed. The resident should be elevated just high enough to clear the bed with his or
her weight fully supported by the lift.
a) Position the resident as far over the bed as possible.
b) Press the DOWN arrow, and lower the resident onto the bed.
c) Lock the rear swivel casters on the sit-to-stand lift.
d) Unhook the sling from all attachment points on the lift.
e) Instruct the resident to lift his or her feet off of the footplate. Assist the resident if necessary.
f)
Remove the standing or transport sling from around the resident.
g) Unlock the rear swivel casters, and pull the lift away from the bed.
