Transfers
Allows follow your community's policies for transfers, in addition to these precautions:
• All four caster locks must be engaged prior to a transfer.
• Place the chair in the full upright position. Additionally, fold the foot plate in the upward position and
the legrest in the stored position.
• Remove all lateral supports on the side where the lateral transfer will take place. If the chair is
equipped with 20" wheels, also remove the wheel on the side where the transfer will take place.
• If conducting a lateral transfer, raise the armrest on the side of the transfer. The other armrest
should be in the down position.
• After the user is transferred into or out of the chair, return the armrest to the horizontal position and
reattach the lateral supports and 20" wheel.
• If conducting a forward transfer, both armrests should be in the horizontal and locked position to
ensure proper support and safety.
• WARNING: Always ensure the chair is stabilized, the surface is level, the wheel locks are
engaged and the chair will not move or slide during the trans fer.
• WARNING: When transferring into or out of the chair, always engage the caster wheel locks.
• WARNING: Make sure the foot plate has been folded in the upward position and the legrest in the
stored position.
• WARNING: If the chair is equipped with 20" wheels, remove the wheel on the side of the transfer
before conducting a lateral transfer.
• WARNING: During transfers, position the user as far back as possible in the chair seat to prevent
the chair from tipping forward.
• WARNING: Do not use the legrest or foot plate as a platform. Standing on, exerting pressure or
stepping on the legrest or foot plate could cause the chair to tip or may cause damage to the chair or
personal injury.
• WARNING: Exer cise extreme care when transferring into or out of the chair. Users should consult
with their physician, nurse or physical therapist for assistance in developing their individual technique.
Reaching & Bending
Reaching and bending while in the chair may change the weight distribution and center of gravity of
the user and chair. Proper balance is the key to maintaining the stability of the chair.
• WARNING: The user should not attempt to reach objects if required to move forward in the seat.
• WARNING: The user should not attempt to retrieve objects from the floor.
• WARNING: The user should never lean over the back of the seat, as this could cause the chair to tip.
• WARNING: Users should consult with their healthcare profes sional for assistance in developing
their personal safe reaching and bending techniques suited to their ability and restrictions.
