Focus mode is determined
by
the camera focus
mode.

manual for

on camera
focus
mode selection. Users of 05,
0810-series,

0750,07200,07100, or 05200cameras should note that
if
the standby timer is
allowed
to expire, the
focus
position
will
change when
the timer is restarted. Refocus before shooting. longer
standby
times are
recommended for manual focus and in other situations
in
which you may

Autofocus
Focus is adjusted automatically when the camera is in autofocus mode. The
focus ringcanalsobeusedtofocusthecameraiftheshutter-releasebut-
toniskeptpressedhalfway{oriftheAF-ONbuttoniskeptpressed};this is
known as
·autofocus
with manual

(MIA}. Autofocus will resume
when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway (or the AF-ON

• Vibration Reduction (VA)
Vibration reduction
(VR)
is
available
when the
lens is
mounted
on the
camera
and the shutter-release button
is pressed halfway. Vibration reduc-
tion can be turned on and off using the
Optical VR
option in
the
camera
menus;whenon,itreducesblurcausedbycamerashake,allowingshutter
speeds up to
35
stops slower than would othefV-Iise
be
the
case. increasing
the range of shutter speeds
available.
The
effectsofVR
on shutter speed are
measured according to camera and Imaging
Products
Association (CIPA)
standards; FX-format lenses are measured using FX-format digital cameras.
OX·formatlenses using OX-format cameras. Zoom lenses
are
measured at
maximum zoom

When using vibration reduaion. press
the
shutter-release button halfway
and wait for the image
in
the viewfinder to stabilize before
pressing the
shutter-releasebuttontherestofthewaydown.
When vibration reduction is aaive, the
image
in the viewfinder may
be
blurredaftertheshutlerisreleased.Thisdoesnotindicateamalfunction.

When the camera is
panned,
vibration
reduction
applies only
to
motion
that
is not part of the pan (if
the
camera is panned horizontally,
for
ex·
ample,
vibration
reduction will be applied only to vertical shake), making
it much easier
to
pan the camera smoothly in a wide arc.
·
If the camera is equipped with a built-in flash, vibration
reduction
will be
disabledwhile theflashcharges.
·
Vibration
reduction is generally recommended
when
the camera is
mounted on a
tripod,
although you
may
prefer to
turn
it off depending
on shooting conditions
and
the type of
tripod
