Residual current monitoring relay DMD 2
General information
Residual current monitoring relay DMD 2 features a manual threshold and hysteresis
setting, an automatic undervoltage shutdown and four selectable residual current
measuring ranges. The threshold (switching threshold) can be freely configured
within the measuring ranges. A green control diode signals when the relay is ready
once the operating voltage is applied. If there is no fault message or link across termi
nals 5 and 6, the output relay of the DMD 2 is closed when correct operating voltage
is applied. If the residual current exceeds the set threshold, the relay de-energises
once the configurable hysteresis has expired. The red control diode indicates that a
fault has occurred. If the measured residual current drops to 75 % of the set switching
threshold, an automatic fault reset is performed, i. e. the output relay energises again
and the red control diode goes out. If the operating voltage is interrupted or drops to
an unacceptable level, the output relay de-energises. It is automatically reset when
the correct operating voltage returns to within the specified voltage thresholds.
When terminals 5 and 6 are connected, the output relay functions as a standard nor
mally open contact. This means that the contact is closed when a fault occurs. For
undervoltage tripping via the normally closed contact, the link across terminals 5 and
6 has to be removed.
A ten-light LED status bar display indicates both the present residual current and
the set switching threshold. The measured residual current is shown with flashing
LEDs and the set switching threshold is indicated with constant LEDs, as seen in the
following examples.

The DMD-P panel, which can be ordered as an accessory, can be used to provide an
additional external operating status and threshold warning.
Mounting
Residual current monitoring relay DMD 2 operates wherever it is mounted. Installation
may only be carried out by an authorised specialist, who is familiar with the relevant
national installation regulations.
Installation notes
The smallest possible measuring range should be selected in order to achieve the
largest possible resolution for the LED status bar display.
Ensure protection against moisture and dust is in place during installation.
The residual current monitoring relay should not be installed in close proximity to
large contactors or main power lines, as strong magnetic fields may impair its function.
Direct all conductors required for operating the system (except for PE conductors)
through the transformer
Strip metalcoated cables.
Testing
The testing of all safety measures on commissioning must be carried out according to
the information in the valid national installation regulations. The function of the LEDs
themselves can be checked by pressing the test key when the operating voltage is ap
plied. When the test key is pressed, the LED status bar display must flash 100 % and the
red fault control diode must light up.

Guarantee
All professionally installed, unaltered devices are covered by warranty during the
statutory guarantee period from the day of purchase by the end user. The guarantee
is not applicable to damage incurred during transport or caused by short-circuit,
overloading or improper use. In the event of defects in workmanship or material,
which are discovered within the guarantee period, the company will provide a repair
or replacement free of charge. The guarantee will be rendered null and void if the
device is opened without authorization.
