carried out in accordance with the
current IEE 1992 (BS 7671), BS 6896:1991

A gas meter is connected to the service
pipe by the local gas region or a qualified
local gas region contractor. An existing
meter should be checked preferably by
the Gas Region or a qualified local gas
region contractors to ensure that the
meter is adequate to deal with the rate of
gas supply required. Installation pipes
should be fitted in accordance with BS
6891:1998, such that the minimum
pressure at least (Please see the technical
data table below) will be achieved and
any other British Standards and Codes of
Practice.
Pipes of smaller size than the heater inlet
gas connection should not be used.

The complete installation must be tested
for soundness as described in the
previous standard.
The gas supply must not be in the
position where it is subject to overheating.
The gas union service cock MUST be fitted
in the gas supply close to the heater, but
not onto the burner.
It is essential to provide some flexibility in
the final gas connection by use of a
tested and certified metallic hose to BS
6501 Part 1:1991 (minimum acceptable
quality Type 'B' Class 1). When stainless
steel flexible hoses are used the hose
should be connected in a 180˚ (bend
without any strain or torsion). (See figure
1 overleaf).
Note: Take care when making a gas
connection to the heater not to apply
excessive turning force to the internal
controls.
