]: data view button. Press this button to display the value saved last time, display the current
data number and number of stored data in the upper middle of the display. The specific format is:
s/n/number, press the wavelength button and review button to view data in different pages, and press
the save button. 2498C/D will restore to the automatic measurement state; when reviewing data, it is
used for viewing the next record.
g) [
]: Backlight button. LCD backlight is turned on. Hold and press the button on the 2498C to enter
the light source mode and display the current source wavelength at the top left of the display. After
entering the light source mode, the button is used to adjust the wavelengths of the light source, which
are 1310nm and 1550nm respectively.

Section II Instructions of the optical power meter

2.1 Initial state
When the meter is shipped from the factory, the rechargeable battery in the accessory has been loaded
into the meter, which is a built-in rechargeable battery. If only the rechargeable battery is used as power
supply, please ensure that the rechargeable battery is fully charged. It is recommended that the user
charge the rechargeable battery with a regulated DC power adapter and use it after it is fully charged.
When it is powered by a regulated DC power adapter, the meter will operate normally even when the
battery is charging.
2.2 Optical power measurement
2.2.1 Power on and off
Press and hold the power switch for 1 second, and the 2498C/D enters the power-on self-test state. After
the self-test is completed, the 2498C/D will show the following status:
1) The range is automatic;
2) The measurement method is in the dBm mode;
3) The wavelength is 1550 nm.
Press and hold the power switch for about 1.5 seconds to turn it off. After the meter is turned off, the LCD
does not display any content.
2.2.2 Zero setting
When measuring weak optical power (for P1 power meter module: 850nm wavelength light absolute
power is less than -54dBm, and other wavelengths light absolute power is less than -60dBm; for P2
power meter module: 850nm wavelength light absolute power is less than -34dBm, and other
wavelengths light absolute power is less than -40dBm), the instrument must be zeroed first, and zero
operation should be performed under shading (the optical power input end is covered with a protective
cover). Just press [
]. When the zero is adjusted, the range is kept at the minimum range. After the
zero setting is completed, the measurement state is returned. The entire zero setting process takes
about 2 seconds.
2.2.3 Light input
If the incident fiber has a standard FC/PC plug, it can be directly inserted into the optical power input
socket; if the incident fiber has an LC, SC, or ST connector, it should be converted before using the
2498C/D for test. Pay attention to the intensity and wavelength of the input light to avoid damage to the
instrument if the optical power is too large or exceeds the measurement range of the instrument.
2.2.4 Selection of Measurement Modes
First, use the [
] key to select the wavelength so that it matches or is close to the wavelength of the
measured light. Since the photocell response to the spectrum is not a flat line, when the wavelength of
the measured light is not the same as the selected wavelength or the difference is too large, it cannot
guarantee the accuracy of the measurement result and an error may occur.
