ENGINE S TARTING
NOTES:
• Ifthebattery i sdisconnected
during
thecool d own period, thecharger will
reset.
OVERVIEW
Using t hisbattery c harger isvery simple.
First, c onnect thebattery and ACpower
following theprecautions listedunder
"OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS".
Then
select t heappropriate BATTERY TYPE
and CHARGE RATE f oryour b attery. The
charger will t hendoeverything automati-
cally. T his section e xplains afewdetails.
CHARGING: If the charger d oesnot
detect a properly connected battery, the
CHECK ( red) L ED willlight c ontinuously
until s uch a battery i sdetected. Charging
will n ot b egin while theCHECK L ED ison.
When charging b egins, theCHARGING
LED will b elit.
AUTOMATIC
SHUT OFF: W hen the2A,
12A or 30Acharge r ateisselected, the
charger i s setto perform anautomatic
charge. W hen an automatic c harge is
performed,
thecharger stops c harging au-
tomatically after t hebattery i scharged.
ABORTED C HARGE: If charging c an't
becompleted normally, charging willbe
aborted. When charging i s aborted, the
charger's output i s shutoffandthered
CHECK L EDanddigital display b link on
and off ( atopposite times). Inthat s tate, the
charger ignores allbuttons. Toreset from
after a naborted c harge, either d isconnect
thebattery o runplug t hecharger.
DESULFATION
MODE: I f a battery is
leftdischarged foranextended p eriod,
it could become s ulfated a ndnotaccept
a normal charge. Ifthecharger detects a
sulfated battery, thecharger will s witch t o
aspecial mode ofoperation designed for
suchbatteries. Activation ofthespecial
desulfation mode is indicated byblinking
theCHARGING
LED. I f successful, nor-
mal c harging will r esume after t hebattery
is desulfated. TheCHARGING LEDwill
then stop blinking a ndlight c ontinuously.
Desulfation could takeupto10hours. If
desulfation fails, c harging willbeaborted
and theCHECK ( red) L ED will b link.
COMPLETION
OFCHARGING:
Charge
completion isindicated bythe CHARGED
(green) LED; w hen lit,thecharger h as
stopped charging a ndswitched t othe
Maintain M ode ofoperation. If the12V
DEEP CYCLE b attery t ype wasselected
forothercharge types, t heCHARGED
LEDcomeson whenthe batteryis
charged enough f ornormal use.
MAINTAIN
MODE:
When the CHARGED
(green)
LED is lit, the charger
has started
Maintain
Mode.
This mode of operation
is
also known
as Float-Mode
Monitoring.
In
this mode,
the charger
keeps the battery
fully charged
by delivering
a small amount
of current,
when
necessary.
The voltage
is maintained
at a level determined
by the
BATTERY
TYPE
selected.
NOTE:
For
charge
types
other
than
DEEP
CYCLE,
the CHARGED
LED
might
be lit before
Maintain
Mode
is started.
GENERAL
CHARGING
NOTES:
The
charger
is designed
to control
its cooling
fan for efficient
operation.
