The polarizing microscope is a handy instrument designed to examine the
optical characteristics of materials by means of polarized light. On the other
hand, the functions of conventional microscopes, which make use of transmitted
light or reflected light, are confined to examining the color and brightness of
specimens, The polarizing microscope goes a step further;
it can bring to
light the chemical structure of even the smallest specimen.
