TROUBLESHOOTING
1.
Gnawing in Abrasive Surfaces of Focusing Mechanism
Causes
Dust or dirt
caught between
abrasive
surfaces stops
movement of
focusing
mechanism.

Procedure
Disengage block and dovetail of
focusing mechanism.
When they
cannot be disengaged by rota-
tion of focusing knobs, tap
dovetail head with wooden
hammer to gradually separate
them.
Disconnect rack and pinion.
Clean abrasive surfaces of block
and dovetail.
Scrape defective surfaces with
scraper
to
eliminate burrs or
unevenness of surfaces.
5)
To test surface evenness,
slowly insert dovetail into
block.
If you feel unevenness,
apply a small amount of abrasive
for lapping.
6)
Wipe lapped surface clean, apply
EP grease and assemble block and
dovetail.
Repeat sliding of
dovetail in block several times
until grease is spread all over
the surfaces.
7)
After setting up rack and pinion,
make sure of its smooth movements.
