2.1 TRANSPARENCY MECHANISM OPERATION

2.1.1 Carriage Movement Mechanism

movement mechanism consists of lamp carriage assembly, carriage motor assembly, gear/lead

screw, roller and carnage home position sensor. Figure 2-1 shows the carriage movement

mechanism.

The carriage motor assembly drives the gear/lead screw. The mrriagemot or=sembly~ mounted

lamp carriage assembly. The lead screw is connected to the housing. When the carriage

on the

motor turns the gear, the carriage move the forward or backward in the housing smoothly via lead

screw. The carriage movement synchronizes with the scanner head movement.

The carriage home position sensor informs the CPU of scanner the carriage home position. The

sensor is photo-coupler type. The striker on the carriage active the sensor to indicate the carriage

home position.
