SPEAKER SYSTEM
OPERATING GUIDE
S - 5 1 0 L ,
S - 5 1 0 R
PIONEER
BEFORE USE
•
Please read this operating guide through before using
your speaker system so you will know how to make the
most of its performance. After you have finished reading
the operating guide, store the guide in a safe place. You
will then know where it is, should you wish to refer to it if
something is unclear while the speaker system is being
used.
•
The nominal impedance of this speaker system is 6.3
ohms. Connect the speakers to a stereo amplifier with a
load impedance ranging from 4 to 16 ohms (a model with
"4 — 1 6 " displayed on the speaker output terminals).
•
In order to prevent damage to the speakers resulting from
input overload, please observe the following precautions:
• Do not supply power to the speakers in excess of the
maximum permissible input.
• When connecting or disconnecting pin-plugs, be sure
amplifier power is OFF.
• When using a graphic equalizer to emphasize loud sounds
over a high frequency range, do not use excessive
amplifier volume.
• Do not try to force a low-powered amplifier to produce
loud volumes of sound (the amplifier's harmonic distor-
tion will be increased, and you may damage the speaker's
tweeter).
•
Do not touch the speaker cones' reverberating surfaces
as they may be damaged by external force.
INSTALLATION
•
These speakers are made especially for right and left side
use. On the back of the left-side speaker you will find an
"L" and on the back of the right-side speaker you will find
an "R". The left- and right-side speakers should be plac
ed accordingly, with reference to the listener's position.
(Depending on particular room conditions, better results
may be achieved from the opposite placement).
•
The ideal listening position is considered to be at, or
slightly above, the apex of an equilateral triangle, with the
speakers located at the base of the triangle.
•
Since this speaker system is a bookshelf-type system, if
the speakers are placed directly on the floor, the bass
registers may be overly emphasized, resulting in poor
listening quality. If this occurs, place the speakers on a
stand, or a concrete block, etc. Also, in general, best
results will be obtained when the tweeters are on approx
imately the same level as the listener's ears.
Cautions regarding installation
•
Do not place speakers in direct sunlight, or near heaters.
The cabinet color may change, or the speakers them
selves may be damaged.
•
Remember that this speaker system is quite heavy, so it is
dangerous to install it in a high place like on a wall or pillar
or in other unstable locations.
CONNECTIONS
1. Set the amplifier's power switch to OFF.
2. Connect the accessory speaker cords to the input ter
minals at the rear of the speaker system; hook the red
cord to the " + " terminal and the black cord to the " - "
terminal. Bear in mind that the red input terminal has a
" + " polarity, and the other terminal has a " - " polarity.
3. Connect the speaker cords to the amplifier's speaker out
put terminals. Connect the red cord to the " + " terminal
and the black cord to the " - " terminal.
Depress the input terminal knob, insert the tip of the cord in
to the hole and then release the knob so that it springs back
into position.
NOTES:
•
Make sure that the speaker cords are connected to the
terminals securely. Insecure connections may cause not
only sound to be interrupted and noise to be generated
but also the cords to be shorted and the amplifier to break
down.
•
When listening to a stereo performance with the speaker
system connected to a stereo amplifier, you will find that
the bass is insufficient, the sound is not spread out and
there is no stereo effect if the cords of one of the speaker
systems have been plugged into the wrong polarity ter-
minals.
This operating guide applies equally to the S-510L and S-510R Speaker systems, the only difference being the installation posi
tions (Left versus Right). S-510L .... For Left-side use. S-510R .... For Right-side use.
For detailed instructions, refer to the section on INSTALLATION.
