Battery Care
a) Charging
It is important to care for the batteries by keeping
them as fully charged as possible. Whenever the
SnapDragon is not in use, it should be normal routine
to leave it on charge if possible, and it should certainly
be charged overnight, every night. To do this plug the
round connector of the charger into the socket located
on the front face of the servo unit (Fig:3), plug its
mains connector into a mains power outlet and switch
the mains on. Check that the lights on the front of the
charger conform with the information given in the
charger's own handbook (supplied with the charger).
The Powercharge battery charger usually supplied with
the SnapDragon will regulate itself to stop charging
when the batteries are fully charged, and takes very
little power keeping the batteries topped up until
required.
It is very beneficial to the life of the batteries to give tham a "top-up" charge during the day
if there is an opportunity, even if they have not been used much. It is not possible to
overcharge the batteries by using the charger supplied by Dragonmobility Ltd .
While the charger is plugged into the SnapDragon it can still be used as a seat with user
adjustable height, however for safety reasons the joystick will not drive the main motors
until the charger is disconnected. If care is taken for the charger wires the SnapDragon can
be moved by putting it in free-wheel and pushing it to adjust its position.
b) Disconnection
If, for some reason, you wish to leave the batteries off
charge for a period of time, make sure that they are
fully charged (see instructions for use of the battery
charger) and then turn OFF the servo unit using the
ON/OFF switch on the back (see Fig:4).
This disconnects the batteries from the electronics but
leaves the charger socket in operation. Leaving the
batteries connected up to the servo unit with the
switch in the ON position will gradually drain the
batteries and you will find that after about 10 days the
batteries will become drained.
Leaving the batteries in a discharged state will damage
them causing a serious reduction in battery life and
will invalidate their warranty.
