VI. Installing the Switch with Adaptor Kit
A. Locate the two Pair of Air Bag wires for the corresponding Air Bag. You MUST be able to identify the
two separate pair of wires, on the air bag.
B. Find a spot in the two pair of wires, on the Control Module side of the In-line Plug, that will leave
enough slack to work with. (If you are working with a system that does not have an In line Plug, then
find a spot that leaves enough slack to work with) Once you have a spot, separate the two pair of wires.
Working with one pair of the wires at a time, separate one of the wires of the pair. Cut that ONE wire
(only one), of the pair of wires (It makes no difference which one of the pair you cut). Finally, strip back
both ends of the cut wire.
C. On the Adaptor Kit, you will have a male and female connector. Position the adaptor kit as
shown in (Fig. 1). Proceed with cutting and connecting until all wires are secure.
D. Connect the Adaptor Kit together, Reconnect the battery power to the vehicle. Repeat the test
Procedure from Sec. III. above. In the event of an Air Bag Warning Light, confirm all connections are
solid and landed on the appropriate wires.
Note: Once the Adaptor Kit passes the self-test proceed with the installation.
E. The Air Bag Switch Harness is equipped with a Red Power Lead and Black Ground Lead. These are
used to provide the electrical power for the L.E.D. lights on the switch. Locate a convenient power
source, whether from a continuous circuit or an ignition-controlled circuit,to provide the needed power.
Contained in the kit is a Ring Terminal. This can be utilized to make your Ground connection to a
convenient screw or bolt that makes contact with the chassis.
F. Plug in the Air Bag Harness.
VII. Testing the AOI Switch
A. With the vehicle off, move the airbag keyswitch to the "on" position, where the key is parallel to the
length of the airbag box. Turn the vehicle on. The air bag check light on the dashboard should flash for
approximately 6-8 seconds, then go out. There is an LED light on the switch, which would remain on
while the vehicle is on as well. From this point on DO NOT actuate the keyswitch with the vehicle
on.
NOTE:
If the check light comes back on, whether flashing or a solid light, do some preliminary checks.
Make sure both plugs are connected and completely seated. Double check the rest of the air bag
system to sure no other connections have come loose.
If these preliminary checks don't correct the problem, call AOI Electrical, at the toll free number (888) 903-0004, and ask
