3. Put a few small pieces of the adhesive tab around the edge of an adaptor plate (use a small adaptor plate for the small chess pieces
and a large adaptor plate for the large pieces). Position a chess piece at the centre of the plate. Press the chess piece down so that it is
fixed to the adaptor plate by the adhesive tabs. Adjust the chess piece so that it is standing upright.
4. Switch on the spin painting machine. Check that the chess piece is spinning perfectly upright around its center axis (if it's not it will
swing when it spins). Adjust the piece as needed. The spin painting machine will spin in both directions. Slide the switch to left side to
make it turn clockwise, and to the right side to make it turn anticlockwise. Use the direction that you prefer for painting. We suggest
anticlockwise for left-handed people and clockwise for right-handed people. Switch to the middle when not in use.
5. Now you can start to design and paint your chess pieces. Dip the brush into the paint colour that you like and then place the brush
gently on the spinning chess piece. Steadily move the brush up and down while the chess piece is spinning to complete painting the body
of the chess piece. Then create stripes of colour around the piece. Remember to create two unique patterns and apply them to make two
sets of pieces, one for each player in the game. Some suggestions for different patterns are provided. You may also refer to the box
package or simply use your own colour scheme creations. Just make sure you create two distinguishable patterns one for each player.
6. After you have painted each chess piece remove it together with the adaptor plate and let it dry. Repeat the painting process for the
other chess pieces.
7. After you have painted all the chess pieces and they are all dry, apply stickers to the pieces to complete them.
E. TROUBLE SHOOTING
1. Check that your batteries are fresh or freshly charged. 2. Make sure the pulley belt runs properly through the channels on the two
pulleys. 3. The pulley belt can replaced with a rubber band if it breaks. 4. If the paint becomes too hard and dry to apply properly, add
some water to it. 5. Tap the large pulley if you find it gets stuck and will not move.

F. BASIC CHESS RULES
1
KING
QUEEN
BISHOP
KNIGHT
1. The diagram shows the names of the different chess pieces.
2. Position the board so that each player has a white square in the lower-right corner and a black square in the lower left corner.
3. Arrange the chess pieces as in the diagram before each game.
4
KING
BISHOP
Either player can make the first move. Pieces can move around the board as described below. Except for the knight, they cannot move
through any of their own pieces. If a player moves a piece to the square occupied by an opponent's piece then the opponent's piece is
captured and is removed from the board. All pieces except the king can be captured.
King -
The object of the game is to capture the opponent's king. If a piece is in a position where it could take the opponent's king, the
king is in "check". If a player cannot move his or her king out of "check" then he or she loses the game. The king can only move one square
in any direction - up, down, to the sides, and diagonally.
Queen -
The queen is the most powerful piece. The queen can move any number of spaces in a straight line in any direction (forward,
backward, side to side, and diagonally).
Rook -
The rook can move as any number of spaces but only forward, backward, or side to side.
Bishop -
The bishop can move any number of spaces but only diagonally. The two bishops start on different-coloured squares (light or
dark) and must always stay on their colours.
Knight -
The knight moves in an "L" shape – two spaces in one direction (backward, forward or side to side) and then another space at
right angles to the first direction. The knight is the only piece that can jump other pieces.
Pawn -
Pawns move and capture different ways – they can only move forward, but can only capture diagonally. A pawn moves forward
one space at a time except on its very first move where it can move forward either one or two spaces. A pawn captures by moving one
square diagonally – to either side but always forwards too. It cannot capture a piece straight in front of it.
