Application Note AS3930 – Description of Demosystem

How to quickly get started

Unpack the TX-board and RX-board
Power up the TX board with the power supply (provided in the kit)
Push the RST_MCU button on the TX-board (the board will be set to a stand-by mode)
On the RX board, insert the battery into the battery holder, switch on the board and press the RST button.
4.1

Range measurement

On the RX-board:
Switch on the board
Press the button MODE until the LED P1 is on
On the TX-board:
Push the button RST_MCU
Push the button CONT_P1
Since the button CONT_P1 has been pushed the TX board sends the PATTERN1 roughly once a second. Every
time that the pattern is received and recognised by the AS3930 the RSSI is displayed for few hundreds of
milliseconds going automatically back to listening mode (the RSSI will disappear). By moving the RX-board away
from the TX-board it is possible to see what the maximum communication range of the system is. Please note that
as the AS3930 is a single channel LF Wakeup receiver in case the TX and the RX antenna are not parallel
oriented each other the received signal, respectively the communication range, will be much smaller.
4.2

Different pattern detection

On the RX-board:
Switch on the board
Press the button MODE until the LED P1 is on
On the TX-board:
Push the button RST_MCU
Every time that the button PATT1 on the TX board is pressed the AS3930 will wake up if within the communication
range, while if pressing the button PATT2 this will not happen. It is also possible to program the RX board on the
pattern2 pressing the MODE button on the RX board till the P" LED is on; in this case the AS3930 will wake up
every time that on the TX board the button PATT2 will be pressed, while the PATT1 will not sort any effect.
4.3

Wakeup based upon frequency detection.

On the RX-board:
Switch the board on
Press the button MODE until the LED RSSI_ON is on
On the TX-board:
Push the button RST_MCU
Once those operations have been done, the AS3930 is capable to wake up both on the pattern1 (PATT) and on
the pattern2 (PATT2
