drilling action is really a chiselling action, and constant
backward and forward movement of the drill bit is required.
The pneumatic hammer drill / driver performs this task. If
you push too hard, the chisel action is restricted and the
performance is reduced.
Allow just a little more than the weight of the drill itself to
load the drill bit.
When drilling concrete, try and avoid reinforcing steel where
possible.
During the drilling operation, constantly remove the drill bit
from the hole, with the drill running at full speed, to assist in
clearing drilling dust from the hole.
Note.
If this is not done, on deep holes the dust can
compact, jamming the bit and overloading the tool.
Drilling steel and wood
Drilling into steel and wood and other similar materials
should not use the hammer selection.
Move the selector to the drill /
screw position
.
Drill bits are available in HSS
with the hex drive mounting,
or standard type drill bits are
available along with a standard
3-jaw chuck with SDS Plus
mount facilities at larger retail
outlets and tool specialists. (Not
supplied with the H144L1)
Note.
Do not use a 3-jaw chuck in hammer mode.
For hex drive drill bits, fit the driver attachment supplied with
the kit into the SDS Plus chuck and fit the drill bit directly
into the driver attachment.
When using the tool in the drill (non-hammer position),
locate the position for the hole with a centre punch mark or
pencil line for timber.
Start the hole on slow speed and as the drill enters the work
piece increase the speed until full speed is reached.
Drill the hole at full speed with the trigger fully depressed.
Refer to the drilling section for further drilling hints.
Note.
Always wear eye protecting when drilling, along with a
dusk mask and ear muffs.

Inserting and removing accessories

The drill is fitted with an SDS Plus drill system chuck. All
direct fitting accessories must have the same SDS Plus
system.
To insert an accessory, hold the
body of the drill (not the plastic
sleeve of the chuck) and fit the
accessory into the hole of the
SDS Plus chuck and push firmly
while rotating the accessory until
it drops fully into the chuck and
"clicks" into position.
Pull the accessory outwards to ensure the bit is retained.
Note.
The bit will move in and outward in the chuck, but
should not fully detach.
To remove the accessory, slide
the outer plastic chuck sleeve
towards the drill and pull the
accessory outward to remove the
accessory from the chuck.
