All new LP cylinders may contain water, air, or other contaminates. It is critical that these
substances be released before filling the cylinder and placing into service. Water vapor present in the
gas vapor may cause the regulator to freeze up and cause an interruption to the gas flow. This
interruption will cause the appliance to shut down. To prevent this from occurring, it is essential that a
qualified technician always purge a new tank before placing into service.
MAKE YOURSELF AWARE OF LOCAL CODES. IN THE ABSENSE OF LOCAL CODES,
FOLLOW SECTIONS OF THE UNIFORM PLUMING CODES. THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY .
An easily accessible shut – off valve is a must before you install your Kamado Rocket.
Do not attempt to turn off the main meter valve yourself, you could damage the meter. It
belongs to your gas company.
Regulators are rarely used in natural gas hooks – ups, but check with your local gas company in
your area.
Once you are sure that all connections are free from leaks, you may now proceed with lighting the
burner in your Kamado Rocket. Start off by opening the damper a few turns, and then opening the lid
as well to its full open position. Simply use the supplied lighter through the draft door opening with
your left hand so that the flame is just above an orifice in the burner while slowly turning the key valve
with your right, (approximately 1/3 turn from the closed position in the counterclockwise direction).
Once lit, reinstall the draft door and adjust the flame height using the key valve. Once finished, turn the
key valve in the clockwise direction and the flame from the burner will go out.
WARNING!
When using the gas burner, adequate air supply is needed. You will need to open the
damper much further if running a hot/high flame. If you see that the temperature has become
stuck at a low temp,(i.e.300F and will not climb when trying for a higher temperature,) more
than likely you have suffocated the flame and will have excessive gas build up inside the Kamado
Rocket. It is important at this time that you turn the gas off immediately and do not open the lid
for at least 3-5 minutes to allow the gas to dissipate/clear out. Opening the lid with excessive gas
build up will cause a flashback and can cause harm/injury or death.
A strong gas smell or hissing sound of gas indicates a serious problem with our gas connections.
Check for leaks after gas hook up. You can do this with the sniff test, bubble test, or buy purchasing a
gas detector. Failure to immediately follow the steps above could result in a fire or explosion that could
cause serious bodily injury, death, or property damage.
Ensure the existing shut off valve is closed. Remove cap off the existing shut off valve. Make proper
connections from preexisting gas line. Turn the existing shut off valve counterclockwise to open.
Leave the valve at the Kamado Rocket OFF. Check all fittings for leaks using a soap and water solution.
