The LARC, or Larvae Collector, is designed to help aquarists collect larvae from the breeding fish in their
aquarium. After the eggs hatch, the larvae will be attracted to the LED light, which will stand out during
the night when most larvae are released. As the larvae approaches the light, they will be gently drawn into
the body of the unit for users to check on in the morning! Now there is no need to wake up in the middle of
the night to collect your larvae.
1) Carefully remove all packaging and inspect the unit for damaged or missing parts. You should have:
(1) Larva Collector body
(1) ViaAqua Powerhead
(1) Filter pad
(1) LED light
(1) Magnet Mount
If any items are damaged or missing, please contact your dealer immediately.
2) Rinse the equipment in warm water only, to help ensure that no foreign matter gets into your aquarium.
3) Using the magnet mount, slide the base magnet piece onto either side of the Larvae Collector body.
Separate the magnet pieces before installing the base magnet. Do not try and separate the magnets
while attached to the unit. The two ridges on the magnet will slide from right to left between the
two pieces of acrylic on either side of the unit. The magnet slider is a directional insert. The magnet will
only slide from right to left. Do not force the magnet in place from left to right.
4) The filter pad should already be in the correct position in the Larvae Collector. Ensure that the pad is
placed in the slider compartment of the unit adjacent to the hole cut out of the main baffle. (See
diagram on reverse side.)
4) Set the valve on the pump to the lowest velocity by turning the valve (located on the pump body). Place
the unplugged powerhead into the unit and insert the pump outlet into the hole so that the outlet is
pushing water out of the unit.
5) Place the Larvae Collector inside the tank against a wall so that the top edge of the box is slightly
above the water level in the tank. Adjust the height of the unit by using the magnet mount. Ensure
that the larvae will be able to see the light as installed.
6) Turn on the LED light (by squeezing the light), and place it in the circular holder on top of the unit with
the light facing down into the collector.
7) Test out the unit before your first collection attempt to see how the flow in your tank will affect the
flow rate at the inlet of the LARC. Having gentle flow at the inlet is critical to collecting success.
8) Depending on your set up and the larvae you are collecting you may need to change toe flowrate of the
