EFPLP4 Heating Cable Connection Kit
Installation instructions
The connection kit is intended for extending single or twin conductor heating cables, or connecting these
cables to a supply cable.
The installation must only be done by an electrician with the appropriate qualifications.
Danger of electric shock! Risk of fire!
Improper installation can cause personal injury and property damage.
Measure the loop resistance and inslutation resistance before you take the heating cable into operation.
Delivery contents:

Silicone tape 5 cm
Installation instructions
•
When you strip the outer sheath of the cable, do not damage the layers underneath.
•
Use a hot-air gun to shrink the heat shrink tubings. Start shrinking from the middle towards the ends.
•
After the connection work is completed, make sure that the cables and joints are not damaged.
How to make the connection
Connect the heating cable to a supply cable or to another heating cable in accordance with figures 1-6. If
around the cable is a protective screen instead of a single conductor, twist the screen as a stranded conduc-
tor. Connect the protected screen and / or earthing conductors always to one another.
Connect single conductor cables similarly.
Figure 1A. Remove 60 mm of the outer sheath from the ends of both cables. Twist the copper strands of
the heating cable as a conductor and cut it to the length of 10 mm. Cut the conductors of the heating cable
to the length of 25 and 60 mm so that the joints do not touch one another. Strip the conductors 6 mm.
Figure 1B. Connect a supply cable to both ends of a single-conductor heating cable, so that a loop is formed
as shown in the figure. Connect the resistive conductor of the heating cable to the live conductors of the
supply cable. Connect the protective screen of the heating cable and the earthing conductor of the supply
cable always to one another.
Figure 2. Slide the heat shrinkable tubing 15cm (1) ready over the heating cable. Slide the heat shrinkable
tubings 3cm (2) ready over the resistive conductors. Join the conductors with a parallel splice (3) in such a
manner that the stripped parts overlap. Carefully clamp each splice with pliers. Select an earthing splice (4)
of a suitable size and clamp one side of the earthing splice on the protective screen of the heating cable.
Figure 3. Wrap a piece of the silicone tape (5) around each splice streching it at the same time.
Figure 4. Slide heat shrinkable tubing 3cm (2) over the splice and heat it up using a hot-air gun. Insulate the
other connection similarly.
Figure 5. Cut the earthing conductor of the supply cable to a length that it reaches the earthing splice,
which is connected to the protective screen of the heating cable. Strip the earthing conductor 7mm. Crimp
the splice tight with pliers.
Figure 6. Slide the heat shrinkable tubing 15cm (1) so that is covers the entire connection area. Shrink the
tubing with a hot-air gun starting from the middle and move towards the ends. Make sure that the connec-
tion is tight and that adhesive is visible from both ends of the shrink. Do not touch the joint while it is cooling.
