Operating Instructions
Read and understand these instructions before installing,
operating, or maintaining the equipment.
DANGER
!
Hazardous voltage.
Will cause death or serious injury.
Disconnect power before working on equipment.
CAUTION
Reliable functioning of the equipment is only ensured with
certified components.
3VT General information
The 3VT circuit breakers can be delivered with rated currents I
from 10 A to 630 A. For the frame size VT630 the rated current
I
varies from 400 A to 630 A. Furthermore, the rated operating
n
voltage is AC 415 / 440 V and the rated insulation voltage is
AC 690 V. The circuit breakers are designed to be used for sys-
tem and motor protection as well as for infrequent switching of
electrical circuits.
The 3VT frame size VT630 is available with thermal-magnetic
overcurrent trip units with either permanently set (fixed) or
adjustable long-time delay overload protection (L). The instanta-
neous short-circuit protection (I) is fixed or can be adjusted
using the LSI of the ETU.
VT630 Operating conditions
3VT circuit breakers are climate-proof. They are designed for
use in enclosed areas in which there are no severe operating
conditions (e.g. dust, corrosive vapors, damaging gases).
For installation in dusty and damp areas, suitable enclosures
(housings, cabinets) must be provided. The ambient tempera-
ture must be between +40 °C and -5 °C, and the average value
within a 24-hour period must not exceed +35 °C;
Altitude: below 2,000 m;
Pollution category: 3;
Utilization category: B.
Installation
The circuit breakers are mounted with M 6 screws in accor-
dance with the dimension drawing (1). See Figure (3) for the
permissible mounting position. The required arc blow-out space
as shown in Figure (2) must be observed.
Connection of the Main and Auxiliary Conductors
The main terminals of the circuit breakers are equipped with
screw connections suitable for the direct connection of cable
lugs or rails. Finely-stranded conductors must be fitted with
cable end sleeves. For permissible conductor cross-sections
and tightening torques, see Table (6).
On 4-pole versions, the neutral conductor is always connected
on the left. Reverse feeding is not allowed. After connection,
terminal shields (optional accessories) may be fitted if required.
For information regarding the main dimensions of optional con-
nections (front extended bus bar and rear screw connection),
see Figure (4).
Operation
Toggle lever position and state indication, see Figure (9).
The circuit breaker and the switching state indicator are opera-
ted by the toggle lever. As additional state indication, three colo-
red symbols appear in the toggle lever cut-out.

After the circuit breaker has tripped (toggle lever in "Tripped"
position), the toggle lever must be moved beyond the 0 ("OFF")
position until it relatches. Only then can the circuit breaker be
reclosed. A closed circuit breaker can be tripped (function test)
by pressing the test button.
