Troubleshooting

If your system seems to be operating abnormally, refer to this troubleshooting section.
In addition, error messages may appear in the display panel. In such cases, see the error message
descriptions on page 34.
If the trouble cannot be rectified even after exercising the checks listed below, ask your nearest
PIONEER authorized service center or your dealer to carry out repair work.
Problem
No sound output
Power shuts off while
using the system
Cannot change audio
source
Playback does not start
when 38 button is
pressed
Cannot hear radio (output
volume is too low).
Cannot hear FM stereo
programs in stereo.
Possible causes
• Power plug has been removed
from the wall outlet.
• System components are not
properly connected.
• Audio source has not been
selected.
• Ventilation holes are blocked.
• An MD is being recorded with the
MD recorder (sold separately)
which is connected to this
system.
• Pause mode has been set while
recording from a CD to an MD
with the MD recorder (sold
separately) which is connected to
this system.
• Disc was loaded upside-down.
• Disc is dirty or smeared.
• Disc is damaged.
• An MD is being recorded with the
MD recorder (sold separately) or
Pause mode has been set while
recording with this optional MD
recorder.
• AM loop antenna has not been
connected.
• Antenna is not positioned well.
• There is noise caused by inter-
ference from other electrical
equipment (fluorescent lamp,
clothes dryer, etc.)
• "MONO" appears in the display
panel (system is set to Monaural).
Corrective actions
• Insert the power cord plug into the wall
outlet.
• See connection instructions (on page
8) to check the connections.
• Press the SOURCE button to select the
desired audio source (CD, radio, etc.).
• Set up the system so that the ventila-
tion holes are not blocked.
• The audio source cannot be changed
while recording. Pause or stop the
recording operation before changing
the audio source.
• If you are recording from a CD to an
MD with the MD recorder (sold
separately), you cannot change the
audio source even when the recording
operation has been set to Pause mode.
• Load the disc with the label side
(printed side) facing upward.
• Clean the disc. See page 6 for disc
cleaning instructions.
• Do not use a damaged disc. Try
loading an undamaged disc.
• Press the 7 button on the MD recorder
to stop recording.
• Correctly attach the antenna (see page
10).
• Reposition the antenna to improve
radio reception.
• Try turning off other electrical equip-
ment to determine which one is
causing the noise.
• Press the DISPLAY (MONO) button to
cancel Monaural mode.
