BEFORE
OPERATING,
ADJUST
THE
POSITION
OF
THESE
SWITCHES
model is shipped from the factory, these switches are set to the power
requirements of the destination. Check that they are set properly before
plugging the power cord into the AC outlet. If the voltages are not
properly set or if you move to an area where the voltage requirements
differ, adjust the selector switches as follows.
1. Use a medium-size screwdriver.
2. Insert the screwdriver in the groove to the voltage selector, and
adjust so that the tip of the groove points to the voltage value of
your area.
CHANNEL STEP/FM DE EMPHASIS SWITCH
(Not available on U.S. and Canadian models)
The unit has been factory preset to the channel allocation and de-
emphasis value for the area in which it is to be sold. {f these values are
set incorrectly, the frequency display may stop at the wrong frequency,
or sound may be distorted, resulting in an inability to reproduce recep-
tion signals at their proper sound quality. For this reason, be sure to
confirm that the values are set correctly before first using the unit.
[100kH2/10kHz/75zs} position:
Set to this position for areas with an FM reception step of 100kHz, AM
10kHz, and de-emphasis 75ys.
{50kHz/9kHz/50zs] position:
Set to this position, for areas with an FM reception step of 5OkHz, AM
9kHz, and de-emphasis 50xs.
NOTE:
When unsure about the channel allocation and de-emphasis values for
your area, consult your dealer for correct information.

FEATURES
The VSX-5400/VSX-55008S audio-video components combine the
functions of receiver, wireless remote control, audio-video selector,
surround processor and video enhancer. {t will play a central role
in your enjoyment of audio- video media.
* SURROUND FUNCTION
Three surround modes (DOLBY SURROUND, STADIUM, SIMULATED
SURROUND) can be selected.
* LARGE MOTOR DRIVEN VOLUME KNOB
The large volume knob contributes to operational convenience and
positive response. You can even operate it via remote control, When
you change the volume setting using the remote control unit, the knob
turns by itself, making it easy to keep track of the current setting.
° ENHANCER, SPLIT-SCREEN FUNCTION
The built-in, detail-type enhancer is beneficial when making copies of
VCR
tapes.
Also,
by using
the
split-screen
function,
you
can
simultaneously view the enhanced and original (non-enhanced} images.
in this way you can select the optimum settings for enhancing the
image.
* VIDEO SIGNAL SELECTOR (Simulcast function)
Allows tree combination of various audio video sources during playback
and over-dubbing, enabling you to produce your own original video
product
* TWO-WAY VCR COPYING AND MONITORING
® ACOUSTIC MEMORY FUNCTION
Five types (A--E} of tone control settings can be preset. The settings
for loudness and flat tone response functions can also be selected
quickly.

The calltetters of broadcast
stations can
be preset
(up to four
characters).
The display can be set to show either the broadcasting frequency or
the call Jetters (for example, WBAC). The four-character display can
alternately be set to display your name, or the type of material broadcast.

® RETURN FUNCTION
This function returns you to the standard receiver setting. If, for
example, the receiver switch setting is unclear, press the RETURN key
and adjust the VOLUME control knob until sound returns.
(The speaker switch should be ON.)
