TROUBLESHOOTING
Incorrect operations are often mistaken for trouble and malfunctions. If you think that there is something wrong with this component,
check the points below. Sometimes the trouble may lie in another component. Investigate the other components and electrical appli-
ances being used. If the trouble cannot be rectified even after exercising the checks listed below, ask your nearest PIONEER authorized
service center or your dealer to carry out repair work.
Symptom
No power supplied to unit.
No sound.
No sound from one speaker.
Cannot record tapes.
Cannot perform tape copying.
The remote control unit does not
work. (Other components cannot
be operated.)
Volume indicator does not light.
Abnormal functioning of this unit may be caused by, static electricity, or other external interference. To restore normal operation, turn the
power off and then on again, or unplug the AC power cord and then plug it in again.
NOTE:
The protection function will operate in case of internal amplifier malfunction or in case of external causes such as static electricity or
speaker terminal short circuits. When the protection function operates, all of the input source indicators flash, and the unit goes out into
standby mode.
If this occurs, check the speaker terminals and speaker cords to make sure they are not shorted, then press the POWER switch to turn on
the unit.
If the protection function then operates again, unplug the power cord and contact a service center.
Cause
• Power plug is disconnected from inlet and outlet.
• The amplifier's power plug has been plugged into
another component's power outlet (e.g. timer,
etc.) but power to that unit is disconnected.
• STANDBY/ON switch is set to STANDBY.
• POWER( —OFF/_ON )switch is set to OFF.
• Connecting cords are disconnected from termi-
nals, or connected incorrectly.
• Terminals, or connecting cords pin plugs are dirty.
• Indicator does not light for desired input source.
• Operation of other components is incorrect.
• Both SPEAKERS selector buttons are set to OFF.
• Connecting cords or speaker cords are discon-
nected on that side.
• BALANCE control has been adjusted to one side.
• The position of the REC SELECTOR switch is in-
correct.
• Connections are incorrect.
• Operation of cassette deck is incorrect.
• The position of the REC SELECTOR switch is in-
correct
• Operation of cassette decks is incorrect.
• Batteries are dead or no batteries in remote con-
trol unit.
• The remote control sensor is not receiving any
signals.
• The remote control cord is not connected.
• A fluorescent light is shining on the remote sen-
sor window.
• SB MODE is set to ON.
• SB MODE is set to ON.
Remedy
• Insert plug securely into inlet and outlet.
• Turn on power to other component.
• Press the STANDBY/ON switch to ON so
that the STANDBY indicator goes off.
• Set the switch to ON.
• Connect securely.
• Clean terminals and plugs.
• Turn the INPUT SELECTOR knob so the in-
dicator lights for the desired input source.
• Consult the operating instructions for the
other components.
• Set one or both buttons to ON.
• Connect securely.
• Adjust BALANCE control to center position.
• Set switch correctly (see the section on
"Recording on the cassette deck or MD
recorder connected to the TAPE1/CD-R/MD
output jacks").
• Reconnect properly.
• Consult the operating instructions for the
cassette deck.
• Set switch correctly (see the section on
"COPYING TAPES").
• Consult the operating instructions for the
cassette decks.
• Insert new batteries (see page 9).
• Operate the remote control unit within a
range of 7 meters and an angle of 30 de-
grees (refer to page 9).
• Connect correctly (see page 4).
• Move so fluorescent light does not shine
directly on the amplifier's front panel re-
mote sensor window.
• Switch it OFF (see page 7).
• Switch it OFF (see page 7).
