Printing Specifications
PostScript
The Fiery X40 is a true Adobe PostScript 3 controller with PDF
native printing.
Print Speed / System Performance
The maximum print speed for the X40 system is limited by the
print speed of the DocuColor 30/40.
DocuColor 30/40 is a document printer; therefore in reverse
order printing the print engine will not cycle up until the entire job
is ready. This will impact First Copy Out Time (FCOT). The
copier may cycle down between each job depending on job
complexity.
Overall system performance ('Click to Clunk' time) is primarily
dependent upon the software applications and network

environment being used. Rasterizing (RIP-ing) is only a small
fraction of Click to Clunk time.
Printing with custom software applications may produce
unexpected or unknown results.
The X40 DC 30/40 provides accurate billing of all color and
black & white images when programmed in black detection
mode. When black detection is enabled, productivity will be
affected by the detection of the black toner to process color
mix.
Maximum Image Sizes
The maximum image size from an application is limited to the
image size produced by DocuColor 30/40. The application and
the DocuColor 30/40 setup controls image position.
The maximum imageable area for the DocuColor 30/40 is as
follows:

IOT Firmware supported
Firmware version 4.6 and higher only. X40 will not
communicate with earlier versions.
ECT Compression
The Compression efficiency is dependent on file type and
complexity. Artifacts may be possible depending on the file
complexity. Compression can not be turned off.
Calibration
Mousitometer is the primary calibration method through
ColorWise Pro Tools.
The Mousitometer is supported with ColorWise Pro Tools/
Command workStation for Windows or with the FACI kit. Mac
is not supported.
For best results, calibrate on media that will be used for the
print job.
An optional X-Rite DTP32 densitometer is also available for
use with ColorWise Pro Tools.
Color monitor calibration is the responsibility of the customer.
Optimal print quality is achieved by using a densitometer. For
RGB emitting applications (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel), use
the DocuColor 30/40 calibration target. For CMYK applications
(Quark, Pagemaker) use the SWOP target.
Print Quality and Color Management
The appearance of the document displayed on the monitor
screen may not match the output print because the monitor
uses RGB color space parameters.
For imported RGB images, optimal color is achieved in the
EPS format. Other imported file formats may produce
unexpected results.
Separations Support
For the PC, only QuarkXPress & PageMaker should be used
for separations.
For the Mac, only QuarkXPress 4.0 or PageMaker version 6.5
can be used for separations.
The Combine Separation option is only supported for
QuarkXPress and PageMaker using four-pass color.
