A
Phase Fresnel (PF) Lenses
This lens features a Phase Fresnel (PF) element. The PF element uses a
diffraction technique
standard glass elements, PF elements greatly reduce chromatic aberration,
allowing lenses much smaller and lighter than their ordinary refraction-based
equivalents, but are prone to colored ring flare (PF flare) when a bright light
source is in or near the frame.
• Colored ring flare in photographs can be reduced using the [PF Flare
Control] option in NX Studio. See NX Studio's online help for more
information.
• [PF Flare Control] can be used only with photographs. It is not available with
videos.
• NX Studio is available for download from the Nikon Download Center. Be
sure to always use the latest version.

Diffraction: Light has the properties of a wave. It bends around obstacles in its
path in a phenomenon known as diffraction. This causes a pattern of chromatic
dispersion opposite to that caused by refraction.
