1.2.1 CTRL Integrated Controller Panel designation

The new family of 1RU nrgSMART panels are now available with an integrated controller, designated with a
"CTRL" in the part number. This embeds a primary controller directly into the fuse panel, eliminating the need
for a separate external controller, and provides 1:1 network connectivity to each independent nrgSMART
power panel designated with CTRL.
1) Do not use the nrgNET cable to connect multiple CTRL panels together.
2) Do not use the nrgNET cable to connect a CTRL panel to an nrgCONTROL-BT external controller.
3) Do not use the nrgNET cable to connect a CTRL panel to an nrgBDFB-XLW controller.

1.2.2 SENS Sensor Panel designation

For customers that desire 1-point connectivity (1:N) for multiple panels, the new family of 1RU nrgSMART
panels are available as sensor-only panels, designated with a "SENS" in the part number. Sensor-only panels
must be connected via a serial cable to a controller for network communications. This can either be a
nrgSMART panel with an integrated controller (CTRL), or to a legacy nrgCONTROL-BT external controller, or
to a nrgBDFB-XLW

1.2.3 Legacy nrgSMART Compatibility

The new nrgSMART architecture differs from our legacy nrgSMART architecture in one key area: the nrgNET
serial link. Please note these key differences:
New architecture:
In a 1:N architecture, one nrgSMART CTRL panel can serve as a single network connection for
up to 30 Sensor (SENS) panels. Sensor (SENS) panels contain all required nrgSMART sensing
electronics but do not contain the controller electronics.
The nrgSMART electronics of Sensor panels are powered directly off the A and B feeds within
each panel, allowing the panels to operate with standard alarming when installed and not
connected to a controller.
This is an improvement over legacy nrgSMART panels, which had their nrgSMART electronics
powered through the nrgNET cable by the external controller (either nrgCONTROL-BT or within
the nrgBDFB-XLW).
The new architecture uses the same 5-pin nrgNET connector and cable, however, the two
power conductors are not used.
The new architecture also allows the alarming to operate without the nrgNET cable connected
as power is pulled from the A & B bus to power the alarm card.
