GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Drake model EH24, encoder host used with the SDE24

encoder modules, is a MPEG2 and MPEG4/H.264 SD

encoder system. The SDE24 encoder modules provide

standard definition encoding. The SDE24 encoders accept

analog NTSC video input from either composite or S video

sources and provide commercial quality MPEG2 or H.264,

480i video outputs in both DVB-ASI and RF QAM.Typical

applications are to provide MPEG video in MDUs, medical

facilities, libraries, stadium video networks, and other QAM

applications. There are two multiplexers in the EH24, one

providing an ASI output stream and one providing a stream

to the built in QAM modulator/upconverter.

SDE24

Each SDE24 module contains two encoders and if MPEG2

encoding is desired for two programs, two MPEG2 transport

streams can be generated. If MPEG4, H.264 encoding is

desired, each SDE24 module can encode one program to an

H.264 output stream. Another option is to encode one

program in MPEG2 and another program in H.264.

EH24 AND SDE24 FEATURES

The EH24 encoder host platform is a 19" rack mountable

chassis that is 2 RU tall and can accept up to six dual

program real time encoders, the SDE24 modules. Each

commercial quality SDE24 video and audio encoder module

can encode two separate programs into MPEG2 transport

streams or it can encode two programs, one into a MPEG2

stream and one into a MPEG4/H.264 stream. Each SDE24

module provides two sets of input connectors for NTSC

composite or S-video with stereo audio. Audio is encoded

using Dolby AC-3 encoding. Any number of SDE24 modules,

from one to six, may be installed in the EH24.

When the EH24 is fully loaded with six SDE24 modules, it

can provide MPEG2 encoding of twelve NTSC programs OR

it can provide H.264 encoding of six NTSC programs. It can

also provide encoding of six programs in H.264 and up to six

programs of MPEG2 simultaneously.

The EH24 also contains transport stream multiplexers that

can multiplex any or all of the programs streams from the

SDE24 encoders. The user may select what programs from

the SDE24s to include in the QAM output channel and also

the user can select, independent of the QAM output, what

programs to output via the DVB-ASI port. The QAM RF

output can be specified for either off-air or CATV frequency

plans in the 54 to 1002 MHz spectrum. The EH24 and

installed SDE24 modules are powered by a built in power

supply.
