now either remove his King out of check onto a square not controlled
by an enemy piece, parry the check by interposing a piece between the
attacked King and the attacking piece, or capture the attacking man.
Checkmate occurs when he cannot do any of these three things, and the
game is won by the other side.
4. Chess library mode
When "CHESS LIBRARY" is selected any of the available games will appear.
1. Tap " " or " " to select a game then touch S/P to enter the game, or tap
SET then " " or " " to choose player pieces (W) for white game pieces or
(B) for black game pieces or (2P) 2 players, (you and the computer).
Tap S/P to begin the game.
2. Hint: Tap HINT for a suggested move in the game. Tap " " or " " to select
one of 100 available unfinished games. The display will show a scenario
with common situations and steps. The objective is to show common
strategies and moves to win games and improve your skills.
3. auto-Saves: The game automatically saves every move made.
Tap UNDO to return the last move completed. Continue tapping UNDO
until you get to the move you want or until you return to the start menu.
4. auto Power oFF: If no move is made in the game after 30 minutes the
unit will go into SLEEP mode. The unit will turn back on at the spot in the
game that you stopped at when you touched the ON/OFF key.

The board is divided into 64 squares, 32 light and 32 dark. The light
square in the first row is always on the right of the player. Each player has
12 pieces arranged on 3 rows on the black squares of the board. White
squares are never used. Black always moves first.
• The objective is to eliminate your opponents pieces or create a situation
where they cannot make any more moves.
• The other is to crown your King. When one of your pieces makes it to
the opponents first row at the top of the board (King's Row), that piece
is crowned and becomes a King. A King has the ability to move forward
as well as backward on the board and make multiple jumps in several
directions on one move to capture as many opposition pieces as possible.
If within 120 turns no one has won then the game is over.
There are two types of moves you can make:
Capturing moves: a player jumps over an opponents piece(s) on the
