Drill holes (if necessary) and insert mounting screws part
way into the ceiling or wall (use anchors, if necessary).

Hang narrow part of case mounting slots over screws and
tighten securely.
TESTING THE 5852
Self Tests
The sensor automatically performs a series of self-tests during
power-up. If any self-test fails, the sensor signals a trouble
condition by alternately flashing LEDs, about once per second.
If possible, the sensor will continue to identify alarm situations.
To reset the sensor, either remove power or enter and exit the
Test mode. If the sensor fails the self-test, return it for service,
even if the condition corrects itself.
Test Intervals
The 5852 should be tested at least once each year. To test the
sensor, use the Intellisense Model FG-701 or Ademco GBS7
Glassbreak Simulator. Other glassbreak simulators will not give
an accurate indication of range.
Entering the Test Mode
You must place the sensor in the Test mode before you can test
it. You can enter the Test mode manually, or by using the
GSB7 or FG-701. In Test mode, the LED Disable switch is
overridden.
To enter the Test mode manually, proceed as follows:

Open cover door of sensor.

Use screwdriver to short test mode pads on PCB (see
Figure 3).

Close cover door of sensor.

To enter the Test mode with the Ademco GBS7 or Intellisense
Model FG-701, proceed as follows:

When the sensor enters the Test mode, the green LED on the
sensor flashes about once per second. If the green LED does
not flash, move closer to the sensor and repeat the procedure.

If the sensor receives both the flex and audio signals properly,
the red Alarm LED will light. (The Alarm memory does not
latch in the Test mode.)

Testing the Sensor (Audio Signals Only)
The glass break simulator can be used to test the sensor's ability
to receive audio signals only. See the simulator's operating
instructions for additional information. When the 5852 receives
the audio signal, the green Event LED will flicker.
Tamper Switch
The 5852 is equipped with a combination normally-closed (NC)
cover and wall tamper. Each unit is shipped with the cover
tamper operational, and the wall tamper disabled.
To enable the wall tamper, refer to Figure 5 and proceed as
follows:

Final Testing
To ensure maximum protection against false alarms, activate
any device in the area that may automatically cycle (e.g.,
pumps, generators, heating/air conditioning units, etc.). If the
cycling devices trigger an alarm, mount the sensor in a different
location.
Exiting the Test Mode
When you have completed testing, exit the Test mode by
following the same procedure used to enter the Test mode.
However, the sensor will automatically exit the Test mode after
5 minutes.

Stand within 10 feet (3 m) of sensor.
Switch the glassbreak simulator to ACTIVATE and
MANUAL modes.
Point front of glassbreak simulator toward sensor, and
press red START button. The simulator will buzz a short
activation code.
Place sensor in Test mode, as previously described.
Set glassbreak simulator switches to the TEST and FLEX
positions.
Press the red START button on the simulator.
simulator will click on and starts an 8-second armed
period.
Position the simulator near the farthest point of the
protected glass, and point it directly at the 5852 sensor. If
window coverings are present, close them fully and hold
the simulator between the coverings and the protected glass
during testing.
Generate a flex signal by carefully striking the glass with a
cushioned tool.
The simulator should respond by
producing a burst of glassbreak audio.
Remove plastic tab on back of sensor using needlenose
pliers. The wall tamper arm will then extend through the
hole.
Install wall tamper screw so that it just makes contact with
bottom of tamper cavity when unit is mounted. Use flat-
head M4 or M5 (#8 or #10) screw.
After installing the wall tamper screw, position rear
housing of sensor over screw, and mark locations for the
mounting screws.
