RECHARGING PROCEDURE FOR BRITANNIA RANGE STORED PRESSURE DRY POWDER MODELS
THESE RECHARGE PROCEDURES SHOULD BE USED IF COMPLETE OR PARTIAL USE OF THE
1. Check for signs of damage or corrosion to extinguisher. If found, do not continue recharge
procedure, mark extinguisher 'condemned' and inform user. Ensure instruction label is
legible, rectify if necessary.
2. Ensure pressure is relieved by inverting extinguisher and squeezing the levers together
slowly (whilst pointing nozzle down and away).
3. Loosen headcap, using nutring spanner [Part Ref: HCS]. (Do not use hammer or other blunt
implement). Remove headcap slowly, allowing residual pressure to escape through vent
holes.
4. Empty residual powder from extinguisher body.
5. Inspect the extinguisher inside, checking for caked powder or corrosion, indicating moisture
inside the cylinder, rectify or replace extinguisher if found.
6. Recharge the extinguisher body with new dry powder, ensuring correct quantity and type.
Never mix different types of powder as pressure and moisture may develop as a result of
a chemical reaction.
7. Remove syphon tube, spindle holder/plug, spring and spindle. Thoroughly clean any residual
powder from both chambers using a soft brush or valve tool. Remove 'O' rings from spindle,
clean 'O' ring grooves and lubricate lightly using silicon gel. Fit new 'O' rings ensuring they
are centralised.
8. Refit spindle, spring and spindle housing to headcap. Refit syphon tube. Fit new headcap
'O' ring.
9. Clean cylinder neck threads and 'O' ring seat. Refit headcap, tighten using headcap spanner.
Refit safety pin, seal and service indicator (in accordance with service colour code).
10. Pressurise through schrader valve connection to 12 bar (@+20ºc) using compressed dry air
or Nitrogen.
11. Check for leakage. Record recharging details, including new weight on service label.
