Connecting the External Fiber-Optic Cables
Following is the procedure for connecting the external FDDI cables. Refer to Figure 6 for an
illustration of the single-mode FDDI connector and to Figure 7 for illustrations of the single-mode
and multimode FDDI connectors.
Warning

If you are not installing an optical bypass switch, skip to step 3.
Plug the male DIN connector (from the optical bypass switch) into the female DIN
connector on the APP-LMM applique, then plug the fiber-optic MIC cables from the
bypass switch into the PHY-A and PHY-B connectors on the FDDI applique.
Connect the FDDI cables from the network into the PHY-A and PHY-B connectors on the
optical bypass switch. Up to 100 milliamperes of current can be supplied to the optical
bypass switch. A pinout of the DIN connector on the optical bypass switch is listed in
Table 5.
