A Competent Person other than the user must inspect the
Ergodyne 3198 travel restraint system at least once every
6 months. The frequency of formal inspections should
be based on conditions of use or exposure. Competent
Person inspections MUST be recorded on the travel
restraint lanyard inspection grid label located under the
label cover on the travel restraint lanyard (see "label
cover and labels" in (fig. 9) of this instruction manual).
The Competent Person must sign their initials in the box
corresponding to the month and year the inspection took
place.
Ensure that applicable work area is free of all damage,
including, but not limited to, debris, rot, rust, decay,
cracking and hazardous materials. Ensure that selected
work area will support the application-specific minimum
loads set forth in this instruction manual. Work area MUST
be stable.
Product may continue to be used as long as product
passes all inspection requirements.
Webbing: Grasp the webbing with your hands 6 inches
(152mm) to 8 inches (203mm) apart. Bend the webbing in
an inverted "U" as shown in (fig. 10). The surface tension
resulting makes damaged fibers or cuts easier to detect.
Follow this procedure the entire length of the webbing,
inspecting both sides of each strap. Watch for frayed
edges, broken fibers, cuts, burns and chemical damage.
Stitches: Inspect all stiches for any unusual wear, frayed or
cut fibers or broken stitching on or near the snap-hooks
(fig. 11). Watch for abrasion, pulled or missing stitches,
cuts, burns and chemical damage. If any damage is
observed, immediately remove the lanyard from service.

Snap Hooks: Check snap hooks for deformation, cracks,
breaks, rust or corrosion and rough or sharp edges. Check
that they operate freely by depressing the latch (fig. 12)
and, while still depressing the latch press open the locking
gate (fig. 13). Release both and ensure that the gate locks
securely. Inspect for any unusual wear, frayed or cut fibers
or broken stitching on or near the snap-hooks. If any
damage is observed, immediately remove the lanyard
from service.

INSTALLATION AND USE
WARNING! ALL EQUIPMENT USED IN COMBINATION
WITH THE ERGODYNE TRAVEL RESTRAINT LANYARD
AS PART OF A PERSONAL FALL PROTECTION
SYSTEM MUST BE SELECTED AND DEEMED
COMPATIBLE BY A COMPETENT PERSON. BE SURE
TO ALWAYS FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS FOR
ANY EQUIPMENT USED IN COMBINATION WITH THE
ERGODYNE TRAVEL RESTRAINT LANYARD AS PART
OF A PERSONAL FALL PROTECTION SYSTEM.
WARNING! ONLY USE THE ERGODYNE TRAVEL
RESTRAINT LANYARD IN THE FALL PROTECTION
APPLICATION FOR WHICH IT IS DESIGNED. REFER
TO A COMPETENT PERSON, PRODUCT LABELING
OR CONTACT ERGODYNE IF UNSURE OF PROPER
APPLICATION. IMPROPER USE COULD RESULT IN
SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Step 1: Inspect the Ergodyne Travel Restraint Lanyard
according to the instructions above, as well as all
personal fall protection system equipment to be used in
combination with the Ergodyne Travel Restraint Lanyard
in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 2: Ensure that all connectors and all other
components of the personal fall protection system are
compatible with the Ergodyne Travel Restraint Lanyard
and are selected by a Competent Person. The selected
safety harness MUST be of proper size, and MUST be
fitted snugly, but still allow for a full range of movement.
Step 3: Ensure structure to which the anchorage
connector is attached is capable of withstanding a
MINIMUM load relative to the application with which the
travel restraint lanyard is to be used.
Step 4: Attach one of the travel restraint lanyard snap
hooks to a compatible harness D-ring.
Step 5: Attach the remaining travel restraint lanyard snap
hook to a compatible anchorage connector. Ensure that
all connectors are self-closing and self-locking, and that
there is no risk of roll-out.
