SnapDragon – Owner's Manual
Issue 1,8

2. A Guide to the SnapDragon

This chapter explains the major features of the SnapDragon, and should be useful as a
reference.
If someone who is not familiar with the SnapDragon will be supervising your child, for
example a relative, schoolteacher, babysitter etc, point this chapter out to them in
particular, and make sure that they have understood it. If they will be transporting the
SnapDragon in a vehicle, they will also need to read and understand chapter 3.
Please read this with the SnapDragon in front of you, so that you can relate the description
and instructions to the relevant parts of the equipment. "Left" and "right" are always taken
to be driver's left and right.

Battery Compartment

The SnapDragon runs from two Sonnenschein GF12-33Y-G1 38AH:12V gel batteries, which
when fully charged provide sufficient power for typically 10 hours of indoor running. These
batteries are completely sealed, maintenance free and approved for air travel.
The batteries are underneath the fibreglass
"bootlid" cover at the back. (see Fig:1).
To remove this, pull downwards with your
thumb on the black rubber catch in the
centre at the very back of the cover, and
you will find that the hook underneath
unclips. Then hold the cover with two hands
under the back edge and pull it backwards
and up. To replace the cover, reverse this
process, making sure that the front edge of
the cover is located under the black metal
bar which locates the elevator on to the
chassis.

With the cover removed, you will see that
each battery has a red and a black cable
running from the terminals to a grey
connector which connects it to the main
servo connector cable. (Fig:2). This consists
of two brown cables and a red and black
pair which are held together by a woven
metallic sheath. It delivers the power to the
main servo control unit which is housed in
the black metal casing on the left hand side
of the battery compartment.
