Using the drill

Trigger switch
This trigger switch is an
electronic variable speed control
which enables the user to
vary the speed continuously.
The speed varies according
to how far the trigger switch
is depressed. The further it is
depressed the faster the chuck will rotate and
the lighter it is depressed, the slower it will rotate.
To stop the drill, release the trigger switch.
Note.
The variable Speed control fitted to this drill is NOT
intended to be used for long periods of time during the
operation of the task being performed. Use the variable
speed to start drilling and screwing tasks, and then fully
depress the trigger once the task has started.
CAUTION.
Extended use of the variable speed under load will
overload and then permanently damage the speed control.
Forward/reverse switch
Note.
You can only change the direction of rotation of the
drill using the forward/reverse switch when the trigger is
NOT depressed.
This switch (3) will allow you to change the direction of the
motor while the trigger switch is not depressed.
Drilling uses the forward mode. The reverse mode is
intended for the removal of screws and assisting to remove
jammed drill bits.
Hammer / drill selector
The hammer / drill selector on the side of the housing allows
the drilling mode to be altered between pneumatic hammer
drilling and drilling / screwdriving.
To change mode, rotate the selector to the top position
marked . This position is used for pneumatic hammer
drilling.
Rotate the selector to the down position marked
wood and steel drilling. This position should also be used for
screw driving.
Pneumatic hammer drilling
Hammer drilling is the prime function of this drill. Selection
of the hammer function provides highly efficient, fast and
easy operational performance.
To select hammer function, move
the selector upwards to align with
the hammer symbol . Select
forward direction on the forward
/ reverse selector.
The drill bit used for drilling
concrete, masonry etc is a
tungsten carbide tipped drill bit.
Do not use High Speed Steel
(HSS) drill bits for drilling these
types of materials.
After fitting the drill bit, locate the
position of the hole to be drilled.
Wear safety glasses, ear
protection and a dusk mask
when drilling.
Position the drill bit on the centre
point for the hole and pull the
trigger slowly to start the drilling
operation. Increase the speed
of the drill as the centre point is
marked and the drill becomes
located. When the side flutes
of the drill bit have entered the
work piece, the drill should be at
full speed. As the hole is being
drilled, the trigger should be fully depressed. Constant
loading under variable speed can shorten the life of the
variable speed control.
When using the pneumatic hammer mode the drill will
perform best when the drill bit is NOT being forced. The
