SBX Features
SBX Series Cabinets are designed to offer the ultimate in sound quality and
stage flexibility. They can be played in several positions, upright, stacked on
their sides, or rocked back for close monitoring situations. A unique interlock-
ing corner design allows the cabinets to lock together in various positions.
Horn Management System (HMS):
All SBX cabinets include a passive crossover for standard operation or may be
used with GK's unique Horn Management System (HMS).
HMS compatible amplifiers use an electronic crossover to split the signal
between the main amplifier and a separate horn (tweeter) amplifier. The
horn amp sends signals above 5kHz to the horn while the main amplifier
sends a full range signal to the woofers. Optionally you can engage the
Woofer High-Cut to to cut signals above 5kHZ from the main amplifier. Both
signals are delivered to the cabinet via a single 4-conductor high current twist-
lock cable (Speakon). This arrangement does two things for the sound:
1) Electronic crossovers, can be far superior to the passive crossover found in
full range speaker cabinets, providing a more seamless, accurate sound.
2) With separate power amps for the horn and woofer, the artist can overdrive
the woofer power amp (creating the desired growl) while keeping the horn
amplifier clean and undistorted.

1) Four-Conductor Speakon Connector:
SBX Series cabinets include a Speakon® connector, which allows for HMS
operation when using a 4-conductor Speakon compatible cable available
from GK. Pins 1+ and 1- connect the main amplifier to the woofers in the
cabinet. Pins 2+ and 2-, connect the horn amplifier to the tweeter. When
using a standard 2-conductor Speakon cable, (pins 1+ and 1-) this connec-
tor may also be used for full range operation.

2) Mode Switch:
Switches between Horn Bi-Amp (HMS) mode and Full Range operation.
When using this cabinet with an HMS compatible head such as the 1001RB-
II, this switch should be set to Bi-Amp. For operation with non HMS amplifi-
ers this switch should be set to full range.
3) Full Range ¼'' Input:
Using a standard ¼'' speaker cable, this input jack provides full range
operation with any bass amplifier head. HMS mode will not work with this
jack.
4) High Range Attenuator:
Adjusts the volume level of the horn when the cabinet is in full range mode.
When used in Bi-Amp mode with an HMS compatible amplifier like the
1001RB-II, this control is bypassed and the horn level is adjusted by using the
Tweeter control on the front panel of the amplifier.
Bi-Amp Mode:
When the mode switch is set to Bi-Amp, the passive crossover is bypassed and
the cabinet may be used with an HMS compatible head such as the GK
1001RB-II. Use a 4-conductor, Speakon cable (available from GK) to connect
the head to the cabinet Adjustments to the tweeter and woofer signals are
controlled from the amplifer's front panel. (the High Range attenuator in the
cabinet is bypassed).
Full Range Mode:
SBX series cabinets are configured for full range operation by setting the mode
switch to Full Range. In this mode you can use either the ¼" or the Speakon
connector for operation. If you are using the Speakon connector, make sure
the amp positive lead is connected to 1+ and the amp negative lead is
connected to 1- on the connector. In this mode the cabinet is setup for full
range operation and the tweeter level is controlled by the High Range control
on the SBX cabinet.
Stacking Recommendations:
To insure the safe setup of the SBX series cabinets please follow these basic
procedures:
When stacking the cabinets make sure the corners interlock/lock in place.
Do not stack the cabinets so the handles are facing one another. The handles
must always be situated on the left and right sides of the unit in all stacking
variations.
Never stack the 210SBX on its left or right handle side.
