THE CONCEPT OF THE EVOLUTION A2
We have put great store during the development oftheAYM-high-end components to produce interference-
free and precise musical reproduction. At the same time we want to offer you a clear and lucid design which
will result in Simple and comfortable operation. We have found that conventional solutions are not always
adequate to achieve these aims without making compromises. We have not deviated from the norm just for
the sake of it,AYM is looking to explicitly serve the optimization of tonal quality and user friendliness of our
components.
THE MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION
The casing of the A2 consists for the greater part of magnetically shielding steel plate - this dependably stops
outside interference. The built in power transformers are by nature of the low scattering toroidal type. All
in- and output sockets of the A2 have plated contact areas for durability and improved contact. Epoxy resin
circuit boards with double thickness copper layer coupled with the use of brand named, selected quality
components ensure that you will have long term enjoyment with your AYM integrated amplifier.
THE POWER SUPPLY
Two separate power supplies, each with their own toroidal transformers, supply the A2 output stages (dual-
mono-construction). The filter capacitance totals over
80.000~F,
the available transformer power 340 YA,
whereby over the short-time, peaks up to I.OOOYA are available. At critical points the power supply is addi-
tionally supported by HF-suitable film capacitors. Because of this the output stages remain absolutely stable
even under loads of 2 Ohms. The dual-mono supply ensures optimal channel separation and a stable tone,
even when powerful musical passages are encountered.
The prestage is supplied from a third power supply with 2 x 4.700
~F
filters. This has the effect that the input
stages can operate without interference from the previously emitted amplifier power and forms the basis for
the enduring peaceful, well-defined tone of the A2.
THE INPUT AMPLIFIER
During the development of the input circuitry we paid great attention to extreme speed, accuracy and low
noise. The high level inputs of the A2 fit all signal sources with regard to impedance and sensitivity.
Additionally input sensitivity can be comfortably adjusted to suit the requirements. The inputAUX I was con-
ceived as a high level input to which sources with exceptionally high output voltage would be connected.
Relays are situated directly behind the input sockets. These serve to switch the signal, selected with either
the rotary switch or the remote control, to the input buffer amplifier. The incoming musical Signal is of low
impedance and thereby immune to interference and cross-talk.
Balance, volume and input sensitivity are adjusted individually to the right and left channels by digital level con-
trollers. These work in 0.5dB steps with an adjustment accuracy of 0.05dB over the complete range. The result
is that the image remains stable and accurate even at low volume. The compactness of the circuitry allows a
fast and exact processing of the musical Signal, presenting no target to humming and scattering.
