The FIAP Spalt Active, in the following text termed unit, is exclusively intended for the mechanical
cleaning of garden ponds with or without fish population at a minimum water temperature of + 8 °C.
Ensure that the safety transformer is only operated at ambient temperatures of – 10 °C to + 40 °C.
The unit is suitable for use for swimming and bathing ponds in accordance with the national installer
regulations.

Safety information
For safety reasons, children and young persons under 16 years of age as well as persons who cannot
recognise possible danger or who are not familiar with these operating instructions, are not permitted
to use the unit!
Please keep these operating instructions in a safe place! Also hand over the operating instructions when
passing the unit on to a new owner. Ensure that all work with this unit is only carried out in accordance with
these instructions.
The combination of water and electricity can lead to danger to life and limb, if the unit is incorrectly connected
or misused.
Attention! Danger of electric shock. Ensure that the cable connection points and their surroundings
are dry.
The transformer and the plug connectors of the power cables supplied are not water-tight, but only rain and
splash-proof. Do not route or fit in the water! Protect the plug connection from moisture. Protect the
connection cable when burying to avoid damage. Only operate the unit when plugged into an earthed socket.
The latter must have been installed in accordance with the valid national regulations. Ensure that the
protective earth wire is led to the unit. Only use electrical equipment, adapters, extension or connection
cables with an earthed contact which are approved for outside use. Ensure that the power connection cable
cross section is not smaller than that of the rubber sheath with the identification H05RN-F. Extension cables
must meet DIN VDE 0620. Only use cables when unwound prior to use. Ensure that the unit is fused for a
rated residual current of max. 30 mA via a residual current-operating system (FI or RCD resp.). Electrical
installations in garden ponds and swimming ponds must meet the national and international regulations valid
for installers. Ensure that the safety transformer is located at a minimum spacing from the pond edge of 2 m
(in Germany) and 2,5 m in Switzerland. Compare the electrical values of the power supply with those on the
type plate on the packaging or on the unit itself. Never operate the unit if the cable or housing are defective!
Disconnect the power! Do not carry or pull the unit by the connection cable. Only use the unit with the
attendant safety transformer contained in our scope of delivery. Never open the unit housing or its attendant

cannot be replaced, if damaged. Never carry out technical changes to the unit. Only use original spare parts
and accessories. Only allow authorised customer service outlets to perform repairs. Never use the system for
filtering fluids other than water! Ensure that the filter will not overflow. Danger of completely emptying the
pond. For your own safety, consult an expert when you have questions or encounter problems!
Installation
Lay the outlet pipes for the water outlet into the pond and for the drain outlet into the sewage system or flower
bed with a sufficient gravity. Ensure that the unit is placed at a flood protected place and on firm ground.
When installing an FIAP UVC pre-clarifying unit (e.g. UV Active), place the unit at a minimum distance of 2 m
from the pond edge. Place the transformer at a minimum distance of 2 m from the pond edge at a flood
protected place. Ensure unrestricted access to the cover to be able to carry out work on the unit. Push or turn
the hose onto the stepped hose nozzle and secure with a hose clip. Lay the hose such that it will not deform
when walked on, avoid kinks and connect it to the pump.
Start-up
Switch on the pump. Close the cover. The unit functions automatically.
Note: The FIAP BioSieve Active filter is a mechanical- biological filter system and requires several weeks
after its first installation to reach its full biological effect.
The FIAP wedge wire screen filter is a low-maintenance and space saving filter for mechanical
water filtration in ponds and natural pools.

Outstanding good mechanical filtration
Effective oxygene enrichment under the FIAP wedge wire screen
Easy installation and maintenance
Filtrates pieces bigger than 300µ.
Suitable biomodules as a complete solution in the FIAP filter programm
Low nitrate and phosphate values by quick precipitation of dirt and excrement from the water cycle
Energy and water saving
Waste particle away from water circulation
Maintenance and cleaning
Adhere to the safety information given above! Always unplug the power cables of the pump prior to
starting work! Only clean the filter when required, do not use chemical cleaning agents to permit the
filter biology to optimally develop, knowing that cleaning agents kill the bacteria in the foam filters.
Storage/Over-wintering
Put the unit out of operation at water temperatures below 8 °C or, at the latest, when freezing
temperatures are to be expected. Drain and thoroughly clean the unit, check for damage. Do not
immerse the power plug in the water! Ensure that the storage place is inaccessible to children. Cover
the filter container such that the ingress of rain water is excluded. Drain all hoses, pipes and
