Download Manager™ (DM) software from Clarinet Systems, Inc. helps PDA users easily obtain
files or data from a central server. DM sends software packages to infrared (IR) equipped PDAs
or cell phones through Clarinet Systems EthIR LAN IR hardware – the ESB301 or ESB3011b.
DM and EthIR LAN use the Object Exchange (OBEX) protocol to communicate via infrared
from an ftp server to any PDA with an IrDA compliant port: a Palm OS device, PocketPC,
or Windows- based handheld. No special client software or serial cradles are required.
Download Manager is a server side, web-based application. Users access the web site via
a PC and select software packages to download from a list. Administrators log onto the DM
application and prepare the packages in advance for the PDA users to download.
Hospitals, medical schools, and health sciences libraries use Download Manager and EthIR
LAN to push down many kinds of PDA-based medical reference documents, drug interaction
databases, dosage calculators, patient tracking software, dictionaries, and productivity
applications.
