EQStarProEQ5 User Guide
3.3. RA Motor details (including Hex bolt position):
3.4. Motor Installation tips:
3.4.1. The original motor assemblies must be removed first, along with the toothed gears on the
worm gear shafts. Each motor assembly is held in place by a single hex bolt, and the old
gears are held in place by a hex set screw.
3.4.2. The replacement motor drive assemblies are mounted using similar hex bolts and the
existing mounting holes.
3.4.3. Mount the motor drive assemblies first, with final adjustments to be made once the new
worm shaft gears are installed.
3.4.4. The EQStarProEQ5 kit has replacement gears for each axis worm gear shaft with 2 set
screws each. Note the flat side of each gear is on the outside, with the attachment collar
pointing toward the shaft.
3.4.5. At least for the Meade LXD75 mount, the worm gear shafts have a flat surface. One of the
set screws should contact that flat surface to get a no-slip attachment.
3.4.6. The gear on the worm shaft and the gear on the motor need to line up and be parallel to
each other.
3.4.7. Install the belt starting with the small gear on the motor, then gradually work the belt over
the large worm gear.
3.4.8. The motor mount needs to be adjusted to get a reasonable belt tension (tight enough to
avoid belt slippage, loose enough to avoid excess mechanical wear). The belt should not
sag, but there should be some play pushing against the belt with your finger.
3.4.9. Connect the mount control unit to each motor using the cables supplied with EQStarPRO.
3.4.10. Motor control cable connector pinouts:
