How to Use the Controls
The control panel on the DefendAir EX has one rotary
switch and two indicator lights.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
The DefendAir EX is designed to operate on a 115V/60 Hz elec-
trical connection. Make sure that the electrical outlet is grounded
and that all safety precautions are taken.
MAINTENANCE
Always turn off the power before performing maintenance proce-
dures. All the service procedures below are to be executed with
the unit unplugged. Perform before each use or as needed. Al-
ways wear an appropriate NIOSH-approved respirator and, if
needed, other personal protective equipment when servicing or
cleaning the DefendAir.
Changing Filters
Check the filters regularly to assure the best performance from
the unit. Test the filters by running the unit at maximum speed
and watching for the filter lights to illuminate. Detach ducting
from both the intake and outlet and check for blockages. Always
wear an appropriate NIOSH-approved respirator and, if needed,
other personal protective equipment when removing or replacing
filters or pre-filters.
PRE-FILTERS: Pre-filter replacement is recommended after
every job to prevent cross-contamination and extend the service
life of the primary filter. Pre-filters should also be changed when-
ever the Pre-Filter Light illuminates during operation.
To change pre-filters:
1. Open the upper filter access panel on the back of the unit just
below the Dri-Eaz logo.
2. Remove the contaminated filters and discard in accordance
with applicable regulations.
3. While the pre-filters are removed, close the filter access panel
and plug the unit in. Briefly turn the unit on and check to see if
the Primary Filter light illuminates for the primary filter. If it does,
replace the primary filter as well. Be sure to turn the unit off and
unplug before continuing.
4. Open the filter access panel and install the new pre-filters.
5. Close the filter access panel.
PRIMARY FILTER: Avoid cross-contamination by replacing the
primary filter after every remediation job. The primary filter
should also be changed whenever the Primary Filter light illumi-
nates during operation.
To change the primary filter:
1. Detach the back panel by removing the six thumbscrews.

Cleaning the Unit
Remember to always wear an appropriate NIOSH-approved res-
pirator and other personal protective equipment when cleaning
or servicing the DefendAir. Clean the unit thoroughly after every
remediation job to avoid cross-contamination.
EXTERIOR: Wipe down the exterior housing with any non-
solvent-based cleaner. Pay particular attention to the area
around the air intake duct. Bring back the original factory shine
with an automotive vinyl cleaner or polish.
INTERIOR: Open the filter access panel and detach the back
panel. Remove the dirty filters. Wipe down the interior of the unit
with any non-solvent-based cleaner. Let the unit dry before in-
stalling clean filters. Reattach the back panel and close the filter
access panel.
Inspect the Electrical System
Inspect the electrical cord for damage at regular intervals. Peri-
odically, detach the back panel and inspect internal wiring for
bare wires, insecure fasteners, and discoloration. Remove and
repair any damaged wiring as needed. Failure to do so may lead
to electrical shock or a fire hazard.
