The booster without the switch‐pot can be installed anywhere in the
guitar. A DPDT switch is needed (not provided) and it will be wired
with 6 wires (not provided) to the switch's six points on the PCB.
INSTALLATION
Before proceeding with installation test the booster alone, outside
the instrument electronics. Simply apply a signal to the input (Hot
Wire and Ground) and connect the output to an amplifier. This will
avoid the suspicion that the booster is not working properly if errors
may happen further in the installation process.
The installation should be performed by a skilled technician who
understands guitar electronics, wiring diagrams, signal flow, and can
perform modifications if needed or desired.
We cannot and we will not make custom wiring drawings. We
provide the most common wiring examples from which you may
derive a particular configuration. These are available in the product
webpage.
We strongly advise you to draw and archive the original instrument
wiring for future reference.
Plan your custom installation on paper and when you are sure the
signal flow is correct through all the components use that as your
guidance.
Hand working and soldering are required so be prepared to spend a
few good hours on installation. Woodwork may be necessary –have
your tools ready. Proper mechanical, electric, and testing tools are
needed.
FINAL TOUCH
The booster's adjustment trimmers have a long sliding shaft that
goes through the trimmer rotors. The sliding shafts adjust the knobs
height when passed through the plastic back cover or through the
pick guard and allow flush alignment at the top of the back plate or
the front pick guard. Knob holes need a 6 mm bit and are 10mm
apart from each other in straight line. The trim‐knobs are reversible,
if the settings need to be done from the front pick guard instead of
the back plate of the instrument. The direction of rotation for the
trimmers is also reversed in this instance. You may fix the trim‐knob
shafts in the trimmer rotor with a small drop of nail lacquer. Be sure
that you will not lock the trimmer rotors. Remove the lacquer with a
cutter if these need readjustments. Do not use solvent to remove
the lacquer because you risk infiltrating the trimmer and destroy it.
Remove the washer and one nut if the pot thread length is too short
to pass through instrument's wood. These are the switch‐pot
dimensions.
IN OPERATION
The Micro Booster is configured for clean flat boost in all audio
spectrums for the given amplification headroom. Push the switch‐
pot once ‐ the signal goes through the booster circuit (the knob will
go a little higher, so you will notice the booster is engaged); push
again and the signal is routed in TRUE BYPASS straight to the output
of the instrument. The sliding DPDT switch side of the switch‐pot
may introduce static noise or pops when switched, which is normal
for these type of switches used in such applications.
Adjusting the Gain, Lows, and Highs trim‐knobs may introduce static
noise, which is normal for these types of trimmers which are
intended for set and forget adjustments only. You may use a
contacts cleaning aerosol solution (which also contain a conductive
lubricant) to reduce or prevent the static noise or popping
occurrences while operating the potentiometer, trimmers, and the
sliding switch. Use a small puff of solution on each at a time and
perform several mechanical actions to help spreading the conductive
lubricant inside of these parts.
